Thank you. So, should I be seeing a falling frequency response in the graph using default settings, down -10dB from 1kHz to 10kHz? Or is there something else that I’ve messed up?

Sounds like you're recording with RIAA? You'll need to remove it. You can kind of plot from 1kHz but you'll have a 0.5dB rise from 1kHz to around 5kHz due to the missing correction. Everything below 1kHz will be too far off to be useable.

Thanks again, I really appreciate the help. Yes, I am recording with RIAA so that makes sense. I’m using a Puffin so it’ll be easy to fix.

Yes you can disable EQ in the Puffin or the script can reverse it.

The Shure on the flattened Clearaudio record. Alignment is not perfect but I am going to flatten the record it one more time so I'll wait to adjust. I also realized that I left my Flat MM phono stage on unbalanced for the last measurement. Setting it to balanced (I have a balanced system) also affected the FR marginally. IF the Clearaudio is the poor man's JVC, then the Shure is the poor man's Denon DL100A. ;)

Edit: new comparison of CA and CBS test record.

JP's comparison:

Above 1k, the differences looks similar.

I set Puffin phono eq to E500R-0 and it then fits perfectly with TRS1007 and QR2010 test record and these settings

Clearaudio CA-TRS-1007 is still my best FR test record I think, even if the cross talk in not as good as others

Finally got an Issue 1 copy of STR-100 so I was able to complete the comparisons. These are all separate plots as it turned out to be important to show both channels so one plot would've been too busy, IMO.

Issue 3 (Old) is a gatefold while Issue 3 (New) isn't. My factory box of Issue 3 (New) is dated June 1985 from the plant.

This is the "reference" plot of the same cartridge with JVC TRS-1007:

I've four copies of QR2010 and two QR2009. I measured three QR2010, four sides in total, and all show not-great performance. All my copies are used.

QR2009 does well until about 17kHz, and then has a substantial glitch.

All measured with the DL-1000A.

Sad, I had hoped Bruel&Kjær did a better Job with their Ortofon equipment they quote . ClearAudio remains my poor man’s JVC TRS1007

The response to 20kHz and the channel deviation were a surprise, especially after seeing QR2009 results.

@Balle Clorin is your Clearaudio record warped in any way? My second one was more warped than my first and needed flattening to get similar results. Seeing that these tones are at the very beginning of the record, I'm thinking distortion and the high end is affected more as the record moves up and down.

@JP Do you think the wavy-ness of the Clearaudio record intrinsic to the record itself (maybe a result of copying the JVC record) or if there is there anything possible code-wise that could plot it better, maybe something like adjusting bins for higher resolution?

It showed up very strongly in the left channel of @Thomas_A's plot as well, though I see signs of it on most plots somewhere; if not in the fundamental nearly always in the distortion. Approaching 10kHz it's usually the double hump.

Been thinking about what could be causing a dB of amplitude instability once or twice per revolution. Haven't come up with anything so far.

Script is 100Hz from 1kHz. More/smaller bins isn't going to help.

STR-100 Issue 1, 2, and 3 (new) as well as QR2009 from today show it. Not as bad as those couple CA plots, but it's def there.

How can you tell version 2 from version 3 of the STR-100 record?

Thank you

Yes my Clearaudio CA-TRS is visual flat but the cart makes a small bump every revolution it can be seen as a wiggle in the recording, if I filter below 25hz it goes away
How do you flatten your CA record?. The strange thing is that my ATOC9ML/ii does not have the oscillating FR curve the AT33PTG/II gets on CA TRS1007 record. The sam thing is seen for PTG on Stereoplays post I link to

Thanks for pointing med too QR2009 FR sweep, even if my record is badly treated the FR seem good.
