Onkyo Tx-RZ70

No, it does not for RZ70. I'm using DIRAC with DLBM (all three presets, so I cannot test, how it works without DLBM), and corrections works only with internal DSP presets (TV Logic, Orchestra, Unplugged, Game, etc), with any STEREO or Surround (DD Surround, DTS:X, Auro) preset, corrections is ignored, when DIRAC is turned ON. I tested it yesterday, so it's 100% correct.

Maybe it works different without Bass Control?
Or the software is really different on the Integra DRX 3.4 that dlaloum uses?

I wonder if nanny mode has been improved on the Onkyo NR7100, which also had the same problem of entering protection mode silently?

Given that the protection mode is "silent" - and there have been no reports of it in the field... - hard to tell!

If this is true, I'd like AVR manufacturers to get w/the program and report these numbers as well!
LOL good luck with getting ACD ratings to be mandated. Not that they're particularly important otoh....

If nothing else, FTC ratings for 4 ohm loads should be mandatory so the consumer knows the full capability of the AVR. Why are we constantly guessing whether an AVR is a high current design or not (i.e. RZ50)?

That, I agreed, but not the high current misnomer that is not useful, not worth the often back and forth on forums for no goid reason. Better to just mandate the rated ouput into a 4 ohm load, using the same test conditions for the 8 ohm load test, that is the only difference is the 4 ohms vs 8.

Here, in Slovakia/Czech Republic, actual price drop to 2.300 eur (with VAT), last weeks. So I assume, that similair prices are across the EU.
How are prices now? Here in Finland Onkyo rz-70 prices are 3.299-3.679 euros!!

I'm waiting for black friday.

That's like close to 4k. I have seen it for sale here like 2,300 usd. Is therr a way to purchase it here ans send it there? I know there is always a declaration for tax purposes in the EU. Just is weird. Like Marantz is significantly cheaper there then here.

Prices have returned to their previous value,~ 3000-3100 here, but also in Germany and other EU countries ~2900 eur.

Pricing of the RZ70 has - almost - returned to their prior levels (at least by those sellers I have seen) here in Germany. If there are other reasons, which caused this "massive" drop in sales prices in prior weeks, is to be seen: New upcoming hardware, lacking sales or whatever the reasons might be. The history of Onkyo (insolvency) and its brands in previous years might have led to lacking sales too. Probably one of the causes of the "disappearance" of the RZ90 model...

Yeah. I am not sure Onkyo has a future at all. On paper, this rz70 looks like the best deal on avrs out there. I would love something with a bit more power in my room. I have been thinking about maybe purchasing this and sending it to Amir. I know Gene had great test results. Maybe for Xmas. I am moving and my wife would never let me put something this big in thr living room. It's so tempting tho...

One thing I would say about brands is that AVPs and AVRs seems to be getting more and more complicated in terms of the extremely rich feature sets, adjustability, upgradability etc., and based on user comments on various forums, D+M models are really tough to beat. As often cited by forum members, those AVRs/AVPs seem just to work, few very few bugs. There are always bug, but D+M tend to get them addressed via frequent enough FW updates, to the point users can enjoy consistent performance with very few undocumented features left after within say 6-12 months of ownership. This is at the case based my experienced with 2 Marantz AVPs and half a dozen of Denon AVRs.

They all have reliability issues as reported by users, we all have read about them on AVS, AH and right here on ASR, but even the, again extremely feature rich units such as the C70 through 30, AVR-X1000H through AVR X through A1 series, the issues tend to be minor and failures don't seem frequent enough to worry much about, strangely enough though, the X4800H (that many might have chosen by some owners, knowing that the X3800H is a close match, and the cites rationale appeared to be the made in Japan attraction) seems to have more failure reports than other D+M 2021-2023 models.

My point is, the Onkyo does seem to be a great value, but I would wait at least one year and then based on what we know a little about their reliability (not just failure, but also in terms of no weird, undocumented features/behaviors), go for some potentially good discounts when the replacement models are out.

I've had good success with both Denon and Onkyo AVRs over the years. I've been running an Onkyo TX-NR7100 running a 5.2.4 Atmos setup for about a year now, and it's doing a great job! I have two DVD players, an Xbox, and a Fire TV Cube connected to a 70" TV.

I love that it comes stock with Dirac Live. My only complaint is the remote, it shares the same remote as the RZ50. Shame it doesn't come with the backlit remote the RZ70 comes with, the backlite would be beneficial in the evening.

Yeah. I am not sure Onkyo has a future at all.

I think Klipsch is doing very well financially and Onkyo’s track record of value (Dirac) is helping them rebuild their reputation. Klipsch used to own Aragon, which was priced like McIntosh but Klipsch sold the company off when times were tough. Onkyo is a lot more mainstream and I wonder if there is some benefit to the soundbars and active speakers with the collaboration.

I agree from an overall perspective. That said, Sony is one of the favorites among CI. They don’t measure as well as Denon, but in terms of reliability like HDMI eARC and CEC, it’s probably the gold standard for reliability. The example I use is if I was installing a setup for someone and I didn’t want to be their technical support, I would probably choose Sony.

The Yamaha line had a bunch of new growing pains as they moved to the Qualcomm platform but I believe many of the bugs have finally been worked out. I still recommend that to friends who do not have speakers in correct locations due to aesthetic requirements.

Their firmware has been a bit buggier than D&M in this current generation but talking with retailers and repair shops, they see very few returns/complaints/repairs and the current firmware is solid.

Hello folks, i'm interested in this AV amplifier, i want to use it as a preamplifier in a 2.2 system using an external power amplifier, is it possible to setup this configuration using dirac live bass control? Thank you.

Yes, and there will probably be a discount on the DLBC license on Black Friday.

Another question: Are all processes bypassed in "pure audio" mode, and are there no Dirac filters or other DSP filters?
Cheers, Stefano.
