Onkyo Tx-RZ70

My mistake, 11 amplified channels for the RZ70 (and I own the RZ70), I use outboard higher wattage power amps despite the outstanding measurements and listening impressions of the amps within it. For a variety of reasons I would never buy an Onkyo, but the the 50 & 70 were designed with Sharp Electronics, a giant powerhouse in electronics.
Design was (apparently) by the Onkyo Japan engineers... But images of earlier generations show the inside layout to be quite different, even though the overall specs are well nigh identical to the similar tier Onkyo/Integra's of the last 20+ years.
Much better heatsinking and boards, heatsinks, fans designed for cool running...

Not sure Sharp had anything to do with the design - they are the manufacturing partner only...

From what I had read Onkyo's factory closed down and all manufacturing was done in Sharp's factory. What lead me to believe that Sharp had a hand in the design is that Onkyo's engineers now work in the Premium Audio Technology Company Center (PACTC) in Osaka, Japan.
This, from Forbes: https://www.forbes.com/sites/marksp...nd-thanks-to-premium-audio-company-and-sharp/
"The joint venture between Sharp and Premium Audio Company acquired the Onkyo and Integra brands, including all the company’s intellectual property. The venture also took over responsibility for product development, engineering, sales, marketing and distribution of the entire Onkyo home entertainment business."

Yes, but continuity was ensured by having the Onkyo/Integra (and at the time, Pioneer) engineers, all move into the PACTC in Osaka...

Sharp seems to be exclusively the manufacturer... which may mean involvement in the handover from audio engineering to manufacturing engineering, but I have not heard anything about them being involved in design...

And all manufacturing for PAC is being done in the Sharp Malaysia factory. (At least for Onkyo/Integra.... don't know how much of Klipsch and other brands are being made there!) - and Voxx is supposed to be the distribution/retail arm.

Will be interesting to watch and see what happens in the shakeout/reorg driven by the new owners.

(Maybe good things? Like having the RZ90 finally released to the market? - perhaps with Dirac ART as standard? )

Do any RZ70 owners experience low subwoofer output? I had to boost the subwoofer level to +7 dB and set the sub’s gain to around 85–90%. Previously, when using a MiniDSP with line-level inputs to the sub, I kept the gain at around 50% and achieved similar loudness.

The RZ70 is supposed to output 3–4 V on the sub out, compared to 2 V from the MiniDSP, so I’m not sure why there’s such a big difference.

Do you think it’s a big problem to put Eversolo A8 streamer on top of this receiver in a 5.1 setup while not pushing it to its limits?

You can go to RZ70 web interface and see temp in use if that what you mean by problem.

Yes, that’s what I meant. What temperature would you consider normal?

I don't check that often, but the highest I remember seeing was 44 C while listening to music in 2.1. With 7.1 I don't think I'we seen it past 40 C with movies. Fan was always on Low.

These are just my temps, don't know what is the highest temp that is still normal.

Don't worry about it. As long as your volume level stays below 60% (absolute), Onkyo is still in "eco" mode, this means, that is limiting power, and is always cool. No matter, what you do. After you reach 60% (you can hear relay click, when you exceed this value), Onkyo switches to "full power" mode. When you go above and turn volume up, you may notice some heat. After this, when internal temperature reaches 60C, two big fans turn on and you notice some fan noise, so you know, that temperature reaches limit, when some active cooling is needed. This volume level is really high so you won't notice fans, only during silent passages or when you pause music. You can also monitor this behavior, thru web interface.

As this thread has "calmed down" Onkyo, Klipsch and others (except Pioneer and some others) have been sold last year to a company Gentex / USA. They did show some new models in their booth during CES 2026 and provided a small firmware update March 2026. But as those "new" models shown were only "moc ups" nobody still don't know about the future of those brands sold to Gentex. Pioneer has been - unfortunately - orphaned and has no representative right now. Most of the Pioneer AV websites have been closed down by now, but Voxx promised to provide at least warranty service for the units sold through them. Afterwards ... who knows...

This is all old news. Why are we bringing this up?

This thread has ended long before this has been known (at least to me). It has not been mentioned here and this "end" has not been stated here before (to my knowledge). I just wanted to keep the information "known" to everyone, who reads this thread. Thus they can make up their mind on their own and react eventually to it...
Nothing more, nothing less :)

It might be "old news" to You but not for everyone....

I posted here:

and here in ASR:

Note that the reference in both posts was from an Australian website that broke the news in Oct 2024.

As far as the future of the remaining Gentex (PAC) licenses, I can't say I'm impressed w/ART coming possibly in 2027 when Denon/Marantz has had it since Oct 2025. I covered this in the thread I started here:

I didn't know it.

@EWL5
Great, when you offered those news in other threads already...
But readers and posters from around the world might have missed it here.
This thread ended prematurely without those old news...
It helps, when everything is in one thread :)
I am not impressed either, but at least a sign of life still left. We'll see, how it continues...

I suspect you only read threads you've subscribed to, am I right? I do the same over at AVS as I want to limit the amount of forum reading per day. However, this does have the disadvantage of missing news/updates that may have otherwise been covered in a newer thread [that you're not subscribed to]. This of course can force one's point of view to be myopic (if not by choice, then definitely by outcome). I hope you understand what I'm saying...

Oh and I wouldn't worry about posters from around the world missing out on AV updates. There's plenty of them in ASR and they're in ALL the threads!

@burkm, serious question: why is this RZ70 thread the focal point of your Onkyo/PAC news? I'd like to understand.

Based on your posting history, you had a 6-month break from ASR so I'm not surprised!
lol, I am one step from becoming Joan of Arc and being burnt at the stake.

I don't foresee myself ever becoming chief fun officer.
