Hey!

I love this audiophile community and you're pretty helpful with your measurements and reviews.
I used to produce and mix the last years on semi good studio monitors (KRK Rokit 5 G3) as a hobby.
As a father i now got less and less time for activ producing and im more into music listening.
My Rokit gone broke recently and have bought the Focal Alpha 65 Evo's after some researching.
They sound pretty exciting for the most part (e.g. seperation, clarity, solid snappy bass) but lack in warmth of vocals (lower midrange?).
I will give it a few more days, so that my ears can adjust to them but i am curious what you guys could suggest when it comes to "warmer" more "hifi-sounding" studio monitors?
I use to like my "use-flow" with my audio interface and the overall (truthfull) sound of studio monitors so that my first impuls to not buy full "hifi speaker".

Should i test the new Rokit RP7 G5 cause of the (probably) similar sound signature that i used to like with my old monitor? I dont want to spend more then around 1k for a set.

Gladly appreciate any advice.

Thanks in advance,
Schne

Would you be willing to consider parametric EQ via DSP? You'd have an almost infinite variety of results that you could emulate.

Thanks for the fast response. EQ's did came to mind and i will test it.

Much OT discussion on DSP here on not just the IK system FYI

Thank you both. I'm still quite curious if there are warmer hifisounding monitors out there. Or what are the "better/warmer/fuller" sounding monitors under 1,5k/pair.

You can search by price in the Review Index above left banner,. Amir most often lists the price for a single speaker in first sentence and prices change so go high and check. The problem you will run into is that ASR devotees know that research has shown the most realistic sounding speaker has a linear frequency response, so that plays a big role in their ranking here. Any voicing can added or subtracted by the room as well as compensated or augmented by DSP. Warm sounding (mid/upper bass emphasis) is one of the most easy to achieve with PEQ.

It is worth trying the suggested EQ from the Spinoram website

You can tell by the speaker’s on axis response that it will sound hyper detailed and perhaps too bright. The above EQ makes the response more linear but you can see it still remains emphasis in the mid and highs from the estimated in room response. So you might want to add a low shelve filter to gradually lift the response in the low mid and bass.

Spendor A1s would make you happy, but buying used they still run about 70% over your budget. Not bright, accurate, musical.

Could an AsciLabs or Audio First possibly work? Then again I'm not sure exactly what warm vocals are, as people differ in what part of frequencies etc constitutes warm

Ascilab probably doesn't sound typical hifi at all.

We have a narrow constant dispersion from 1 kHz, with an estimated in room response that doesn't tilt downwards in the treble very much. So likely a fairly bright sound, also detailed left right sound-staging. Not sure how it'll play out in terms of width when you toe-out, but we are looking at not a lot of reflections from side walls compared to something like Revel.

Also, I think the Fidelia is just using the same drivers as the C5B, but with a higher crossover point, a shallower waveguide for a wider dispersion, BR instead of PR and obviously a different crossover, I think hearing the two side by side would be very interesting. It would probably sound "warmer" than the C5B.

I'd experiment with your speaker / listening position first (measure with REW), then check your room treatment if you haven't got it sorted, then try EQ like already suggested. Looking at the measurements in the review here the Focals aren't lacking low end / low mids so it's probably either your room or you're just used to an inaccurate sound. A properly integrated sub or two can also help with room mode issues due to SBIR.

Rooms are imperfect. I would just order a couple speakers until one fits.
About shipping back... get a wheelbarrow before :D
