Hello everyone,

In a few months I'll be moving in my (first) house, therefore I would like to upgrade my audio setup, which is currently made up by:
  • KRK RP7 G4
  • KRK S10.4
  • Rega RP1
The open space will measure roughly 7,3 x 4,7 m. 16 sqm will be dedicated to the living room, with distance from the speakers of roughly 2-2.5m. The other part of the open space will host the kitchen (the two rooms are not physically separated, anyway).

My initial ideas for the upgrades would be:
  • Adding a second KRK S10.4
  • Upgrading to KRK RP8 G5 + KRK S12.4
  • Upgrading to KRK RP8 G5 + 2*S12.4
I mainly listen to electronic/electronica/idm/ambient music, therefore I am very interested in a clean and deep reproduction of the lowest frequencies. Since the speakers will be placed near the TV, I'll connect them to the TV as well. My budget would be maximum 2 k€.
Up until now I have found a lot of convenience in using studio monitors because I do not have to care about matching the speakers with the right amplifier and so on, moreover, I do not like having too many boxes here and there (i.e., amplifiers, dacs etc).

In your opinion the aforementioned options would improve my current situation ? Am I going overkill with speaakers and subs dimensions ? Would I be able to achieve something better with this kind of budget but with a different strategy, such as "standard hifi" passive loudpseakers and active amplifier?

Thanks a lot for your valuable inputs :)

Id upgrade to the KRK V8 S4s. I had them and they were amazing. I truly believe theyre the best monitors in their price range They will play lower than the RP8s and have a very flat response. You can get away without using a sub for a while until you save for one.

My only doubt about the V8 S4 is that they are quite old and they do not have basic dsp functions as the RP8 G5.

For example also the Adam A7Vs do integrate dsp functions which might be convenient to slightly fine tune the speaker in the room.

At Hi-Fi kind of distances I'd probably give the bigger KRKs a pass altogether... an 8"/1" with the most minimal of waveguides cannot possibly have very good dispersion matching between woofer and tweeter, so if they're flat in nearfield they'll have issues at distance where lots of diffuse sound is at play. These are primarily a nearfield design, I'd say (~1.5 m with somewhat decent acoustic treatment).

For what you want, I would focus on models with sizeable waveguides. Minimum Yamaha HS8 if you want something with fairly wide dispersion. This is the domain of the likes of Kali, JBL and ADAM. Maybe a pair of T8V or IN-8v2 and add an S12 G4?

Adam TV8 just under 500,- pair. Looks more than promising would compare the KRK with them.

A pair of Adam T8V and a single Adam Sub 12 (to start with) might be an option. In the future o could add a second Sub 12
