KEF R7 - Is It Worth It?

What do you mean? My numbers are the the same but one has an L in it and one has an R.
My serial numbers as fallows:

doesn't seem like a matched pair but probably doesn't matter unless its walnut. was the manufacture date the same?

Does anyone have any other ideas?

If you say it affects the sound negatively, I will try to return or replace them.

This situation really bothered me.

I found a post in another forum. One of the members' loudspeaker (R900) disappears while it is in the cargo and it does not feel comfortable when the serial number of the incoming speaker is different. They are contacting KEF and this is their revert. However, there is a comment about the old R-series (R900). Maybe the new R-series are matched pair.

I'm guessing its just about the finish on the veneer.

I would never let a mismatch serial number between 2 speakers bother me.

Is there something I am missing here that I don't understand?
Does the number on the box not match the number on the speakers and/or receipt? Did you buy new or used?

I bought it as new from the official distributor, they are not second hand. Closed box.

The reason bother me because i think if it's not a matched pair; the frequency response of the speakers might be different.

Isn't it?

I have just bought a pair of R7s in walnut with which I am delighted. serial numbers match other than one containing an L and one a R. I assume this designation is nominal - the speakers appear to be the same and not a handed pair.

I love the design of your component rack! That's very smart industrial design.

I doubt it sounds different but if it bothers you ask your dealer for a matched pair.

I don’t think so. From a production point of view it makes little sense to even attempt pairwise matching of component tolerances. Keep in mind that studio monitors, aka. the really good stuff, is not pair matched.
Pairwise matching makes a lot of sense for furniture grade wood veneer, though. Is there any optical mismatch between your speakers that bothers you?

If I saw "Product sold as a matched pair", I would think that was there so that the seller/clerk/stock body(girl)/shipper would know to give the customer 2 speakers where each individual speaker is in a separate box (not both speakers in 1 box). Or at least I would believe that more so than it being there to indicate there could be bad build tolerance (as with matching actual tubes) or different version due to different manufacturing methods or parts used (but then that would usually call for a new model name, or at least a new "version" or "mark" appended to the current model name).

Often, I see lots of people on Amazon leave reviews where they only got 1 speaker instead of 2.

Not until I finished writing the above about separate boxes, I remembered what happened to me once. When I was working at an electronic shop, I sold a Technics complete surround sound system around 1992. About $1000. Technics sold it as a complete set - no mix and match. I think the electronics were all built in one huge case but made to look like separates. The 2 main speakers were all and much wider than the towers we see now a day (yet the afterthought center and 2 surrounds were the size of a football and 2 softballs). I sold the system and I loaded it all into the customers truck. A few days later my boss told me I gave him a extra set of main speakers! I thought each of the tall speakers came in 1 box, but nope. They were jam packed into 1 box each pair.

OK, now thinking again about the wood finish comments is making me realize it is more than just the color, but to make sure the wood was cut from the same tree or at least that the wood grain pattern and other visible attributes match between the L&R.

Well, I doubt that's real Walnut, possibly an Alpi veneer (to maintain consistency) or similar but I don't know for sure.
