KEF R7 - Is It Worth It?

R3 has very narrow dispersion. I think the narrowest measured on ASR alongside JBL 530 and JBL HDI series. Only RP-600M has less reflective energy. Assuming R7 is similar to R3.

Dynaudio looks like it should have wider dispersion with flush tweeter.

It's a good choice for comparison, rather than purchasing another wide dispersion speaker. At least you'll know what kind of dispersion pattern you prefer in your environment. I learned a lot about my preferences the last month having JBL 530 and Focal Aria 906 (narrow vs wide) together in my house.

So what is your preference?

Does wider dispersion mean wider soundstage, better imaging and better depth? What are the advantages / disadvantages of the two against each other?

I would also like to learn how to read a speaker dispersion graph.

The KEFs are objectively superior to the Dynaudios and should be subjectivly superior too.

(...)

Nevertheless people love them.

There's a contradiction in your argument.

Use the Loudspeaker Explorer to compare speakers. The Early Reflection Directivity Index shows how loud reflections are relative to the direct sound, and the Sound Power Directivity Index shows how directional a speaker is.

I'm thinking of upgrading my bookshelf too (Martin Logan LX16). Like you, possibly to KEF. Have you considered ELAC? They seem to be getting rave reviews.

Which model of ELAC?

Thinking of the ones in your price range. So their top 2 or so bookshelf models. I haven't listened to them so not sure. Maybe someone can chime in with their experience/opinion?

Sorry for lack of information. So which one is wider dispersion in this graphic you shared?
The section header explains how to read the graph: "Early Reflections Directivity Index (ERDI) curve (is) the Listening Window curve minus the Early Reflection Curve. An ERDI of 0 dB means early reflections are as loud as the direct sound."

I changed my mind. Not going to upgrade the Martin Logans.

Rythmik L12 arrived today and now listening to CDs. Listen to these guys here at ASR. This is the brand sub to get!

Pics when set up
Just got them today , still playing with the position. The E15hp hasn’t arrived yet to that’s an L12 in the photo.

Not really. Many prefer speakers which don't measure well.

Even Amir has been known to overlook superb measurements. As evidences by his subjective reaction to the R3.

What a nice look! Walnut is perfect choice.

What are your first impressions?

Have you checked the serial numbers on the speakers' carton boxes? It says MATCHED PAIR, but the serial number that they give for the right and left channel seems unrelated.

I wonder if this situation is standard.

First impressions are very positive (still need to update room correction), the serial numbers indicate a matched pair.

I have just bought a pair of R7s in walnut with which I am delighted. serial numbers match other than one containing an L and one a R. I assume this designation is nominal - the speakers appear to be the same and not a handed pair.

Can you share the sequence of serial numbers? because they don't look like that either.

What do you mean? My numbers are the the same but one has an L in it and one has an R.
