The very expensive reference series KEF definitely have better bass extension when tested in free space (Klippel etc) but this means the speakers will sound best a few feet from the wall and if well executed, which the Ref series are, will be very good. The bass shelf on the standard R series can be largely compensated by placing n the speakers a little closer to the wall and allowing some port reinforcement according to some folks.. I think this would need quite a careful work with REW to get right though. ;)
And lets be honest, since im running a sub ill crossover somewhere around where that shelf starts. I usually crossover at 80hz.

So all that work some engineer did, and ill just ignore that region. heh

well not all bad work! The mid/treble coax driver, particularly in the R11 meta can beat most speakers at twice the price.
As for the 4X 6.5” baas units have a radiating area of a single 13” driver. If you’re adding subs then they had better be extraordinarily good. SVS don’t actually have a recommendation for this speaker model but looking at similar KEF speakers you should be considering a pair of one of their 17” models. With a crossover of 60Hz if done electronically in a DAC/preamp with sub out or 50Hz if just wired in.

Ive got a JL E112, ill eventually get a second

If I change subs i really want something with XLR input, but thats a weird ask it seems. SVS discontinued with 4000 series, and i dont really want to put out the coin for the ultra. JL fathom is breathtakingly expensive.

I think you may need a sub with significantly more power to make a noticeable improvement to the KEF R11 meta. Certainly on music. For home theatre and electronic music the bass extension could be still be worthwhile. That’s why I believe SVS’s recommendation for monster subs is right. They will of course be capable of demolishing your whole neighbourhood :)
If you can get a demo of the R11 and I think that you might be quite surprised how good it is standalone if you looking for clean presentation of vocals and instruments even with quite a lot of low frequency content

a neighborhood in rubble is desired.
