Integra DRX 8.4 vs Denon A10H - buy or wait for newer models?

Obviously A10H is more expensive - is there anything new/better about it from a chipset standpoint since it's newer than the DRX? I don't think so but wanted to ask here.

DRX 8.4 is over a year old now, A10H is brand new. I expect neither will be replaced with new models until 2026.

The only thing they both seem to lack is QMS support for HDMI 2.1 but nobody will have that this generation: https://www.avforums.com/threads/ar...1a-support-yet-specifically-with-qms.2486938/

I just want a high quality AVR that has dirac DLBC with future software/firmware update to ART. Looking at the Integra DRX because it does seem to be slightly higher quality than Onkyo/Pioneer versions, although the difference is probably inaudible.

I should clarify - I will be using this for a simple 3.1 setup with no power amps, so much of the extra features, extra channels, XLR ports etc don't matter to me. I just want the best electronics/chips (most future-proof) + very high sound quality.

I am fully aware that DLBC usefulness with a single sub is debatable, but I still want DLBC vs. purely manual subwoofer tuning which is a huge PITA.

Right not, the future of Dirac ART is hazy. It’s hard to make strong recommendations.

As far as I know, the ONLY public discussion of actually running ART is @TimoJ on the HTP-1. I think people have seen Massimo training videos suggesting that Sound United people have beta Dirac ART too, but that’s less clear.

How quickly do you need an AVR?

Not immediately but it would be a nice to have to just get this project done. Obviously A10H also has Audeyssey/XT32 which I hear is better for imaging/multi channel object audio in PC gaming vs. Dirac.

Curious to see what is announced at CES. 240hz TVs and nVidia 5090 coming next year will probably necessitate a new AVR in 2026 anyway.

I found Dirac to be better than AudysseyXT32... but that was my own subjective impression.
For the requirements here, the 8.4 should be perfectly adequate (or as the old Rolls Royce blurb used to say "adequate for any conditions" in a supreme use of understatement!) - and it has the minor advantage of being more economical (both the base unit, and the cost of Dirac as it already includes the Dirac Live licence)

But, If you aren't in a hurry, then wait.... typically street price will drop, and we don't what will or will not be released. (eg: the long awaited Onkyo RZ90 and its Integra sibling...), or which models will actually end up having ART...

With tech changing and progressing all the time, waiting is always a great alternative, if you don't need it Right Now. (!)
