Denon AVR-A10H 13.4-Channel Receiver announced!

Peng,

Like X6800, the audible click when the switch Eco on to off , occurs when master level is greater than -30db.

I am just surprised that A10H is more hot than my previous X6800 with same speakers and settings.

I have also ordered a Noctua NF A20 fan to test using AVR USB 5v port.
Disappointing to know that they still have Eco triggered by the volume setting instead of something more intelligent such as by voltage/current or power demand like the schemes used in class G power amps such as Outlaw's and many others. I guess cost is the reason why they wouldn't do it that way. The issue with using volume setting is obvious, for one thing, you will notice you change the volume to higher than the trigger point, it wouldn't turn eco off right away but after some seconds, and vice versa. That is one reason enough for me not to use eco auto. It is easy for those who use the AVR as a preamp/processor only though, in that case I suspect eco on would be fine. That's because if all channels are set to preamp mode, the unit would likely engage eco automatically, at least that's how the older models work.

Indeed,
My previous X6700H using as full preamp worked always in ECO mode.

To extend life of this AVC I just installed a Noctua NFA20 fan with speed variator (USB 5volt). It is inaudible, especially compared to the videoprocessor and projector fans. Results on the temperature are convincing after 4h of use.

Now let's play and enjoy the sound produced by this A10H.

And in a few days or weeks, maybe even test Dirac ART compared to Dirac BassControl.

Anyone know when the Dirac Art firmware update is supposed to make its way to the A10h?

If the specs (subwoofer outputs, DSP Type, etc.) fit, ART will probably available September/October 2025 on Denon/Marantz. If Your unit is included as one of those supported at that time depends on the collaboration between Denon/Marantz and Dirac. No definitive statement concerning Denon 10H has - to my knowledge - been given at this time but it could be, that it is getting Dirac ART, if You want to pay for that option.

B&H Photo in NYC has a great deal on the unit.

In Stock @ $2,999; regular price $5,199; instant savings of $2,200

Limited supply at this price.

Deal is still available as of this posting.

Absolutely crazy deal. If you happen to need a AVR it’s hard to beat that deal.

Just as I suspected. Total BS deal. Had it in my cart all day and went to check out when they re-opened for business and it was not available. B&H is just like all the other scumbag NYC merchants now. Total scam artists. Didn’t used to be that way sad to say. I bought lots of photo gear from them. No more.

Sorry for the false hope. Looked legit when posted. I've gotten some decent deals from B&H in the past.... :(

It was too good to be true. Coup exists all over the world.

I'll take my Anthem MRX 1140 over any Denon, any day. Much higher quality and value. Denon isn't even the same league

You should be comparing 11.4 Denon X6800H (3800$) to 11.2 MRX 1140 8K (4200$) as those are two are more in line with each other in many ways. Dirac is having sale soon on BF day if one wants to add the full bundle. That brings the total cost of X6800H with full bandwidth DL + DLBC to 4200$ matching Anthem! The actual price for both is still going to be lower after discount..

A10H is in another league to your MRX 1140 which has noisy fans, limited tweaking ability with ARC Genesis versus Dirac Live with DLBC and soon Dirac ART. A10H has higher power output due to bigger power transformer and 13 channels 'out of box' so you can power front wides without external amp. MRX 1140 lacks Auro 3D & Auromatic upmixer and DTS:X Pro which can be found on A10H. Heck even from X6800H! Denon has 4 independent subwoofer pre-outs where as with Anthem you get them only with AVM90.
A10H comes with higher spec ESS DAC IC ES9018K2M vs ES9010K2M on MRX1140.127dB DNR / -120db THD+N vs. 116/106. Even the ESS ES9017S found on X6800H/Cinema 30 comes ahead!

A10H any day over Anthem and twice on sundays! ;)

Dolby wides are pretty useless in the real world. When is the (marketing driven) bells and whistles enough? I just want to drive the damn car. :)

Anthem has sales often, just had a big reduction at Crutchfield. I bought the 1140 for $3,600 last Dec. shipped, no tax. Comes with one of the best room correction systems without any upcharge. It's all I need, and more.

I don't know if Denon has changed but with my old one you had to have a Japanese interpreter regarding the manual and it had a lot of lame DSP processing to mimic "auditorium", "jazz", etc. Never could get the bass right either. ARC Genesis has an excellent bass management system allowing the user to do a deep bass boost, room gain control, increase individual speaker levels. Then there is Quick Measurement and an Auto Phase Alignment program to work with your mains.

More than 2 subs is a bit of a waste as reflected by "that" lonnnngggg subs and room placement study by Harman. https://www.harman.com/documents/multsubs_0.pdf . I drive two 15" DIY sealed subs, pre-amp out to an old Soundcraftsman amp. Bass is tight, deep and transient.

"The Anthem MRX740 preamp output section is one of the best I’ve ever measured in an AV receiver. This can be seen by the 3rd harmonic distortion down 108dB below the fundamental 2Vrms output drive at 1kHz. The noise floor is excellent and the power supply hum is down in the mud at -116dB. Excellent!"

"The Denon AVR-X6800H comes with 11 channels of built-in amplification, delivering a robust power output of 140 watts per channel (8 ohm, 20 Hz – 20 kHz, 0.05% 2ch drive). It’s important to note that this power rating is applicable when driving only two channels. When all 11 channels are active, the power output per channel decreases accordingly." https://h-m-entertainment.com/denon-avr-x6800h-review/

Anthem under rates their amps. 140WPC or better, 5 channels driven. I drive 11 speakers with the 1140 amps and no distortion, clipping issues. Fronts are Ascend Acoustic ELX/RAAL towers, center is their hefty Horizon/RAAL. Techs are always available, will tweek your ARC files and such.

I don't hear the 1140 fans either. They are quiet in my unit.

Good luck!

Agreed, but I tend to ignore comments (post154) like that now, when someone stated it as though it is facts, when it is just their opinion, that is entirely subjective when no other info is provided as evidence or even specs comparison.

True, but you are comparing the measurements on Audioholics.com's test bench, there could be a few dB variance just because of different measuring environments, instruments, operators etc., so while could be totally valid, could also not be a fair comparison. Still, I have no doubt the 740 and 1140 have very good preamp outputs. Practically speaking, I would say the Denon AVR of the same model year such as the X3700, 4700, 6700H, and the 1140's preout performance are equal.

Take a look, the 3rd harmonics was also measured at around -109 dB! The higher order, 5th and 7th, were clearly better than the Anthem's, but again, two different test benches so I wouldn't worry about such minute differences when choosing based on SINAD, especially when it is a single point (1 kHz) test SINAD.

That is false, please check with the Anthem website, they clearly rated the 1140 140 W into 8 ohms, two channel driven, not 5 and that's for channel 1 to 6 only, the remaining channels are only rated 60 W into 8 ohms, though I actually wouldn't mind that approach as I sit close to the surround channels, but for others, they may have to add external power amps for their surround and/or height speakers, so that's hardly an advantage over Denon or Marantz's.

Consider yourself lucky, quite a few owners, including some on here on ASR have experienced noise issues with their Anthem AVRs, or AVPs.

Good luck!

Precisely, for those sensitive to fan noise, they might need luck lol...

As to your other remarks on ARC Genesis being better etc., I would just ignore those, because that's not necessarily facts based, but opinions only, unless you have hard evidence such as detailed measurements for comparisons, like some of us on ASR have done on the Anthem AVR and ARC G threads.

Again, those MRX are excellent gear in terms of preamp/DAC, no argument from me, but suffice to say it is better to separate opinions from facts based on available data, on that side of the equation, there are going to be good arguments on both side when comparing them to other products such as Denon, Marantz, Yamaha, Sony, Onkyo and others.

Not sure why they publish that cause it's not true, not according to other sources. Call up Anthem if it bothers you. I did. 905-564-1994. https://www.crutchfield.com/S-N36YEOF1EKN/p_973MRX1140/Anthem-MRX-1140.html

Curious, does a Denon tech pick up within a minute or so?

You have to sit close to your surrounds, eh? Interesting....... If you ran ARC it would not only automatically measure distances for all speakers to the MLP but adjust SPL levels. For example, my back surrounds sit about 5' behind us and ARC kicked them up 2.5 dB and 3 dB respectively. 4 heights are boosted anywhere from 5 to 7 dB depending on where they sit. No external power amp needed as the AVR is known for having great headroom and my subs carry bass on all speakers with fronts set to 60 Hz, 4th order slope, 4 heights crossed over at 80 Hz and 110 Hz as an example.

Conclusion sums it all up. https://www.audioholics.com/av-receiver-reviews/anthem-mrx-740-1140-receivers

Whatever, enjoy your Denon.
