Help me convert old speakers to actives

If the idea is to provide some damping have a look at buytl sheet. It's often used in automotive panel damping with aluminium as the constraining layer.

It would be squeezed by screws. Would it slowly get squeezed out from between the panels? (There will be nothing to hold it in from the sides)

That'll only be a problem if you get one of the butyl sealant or putty varieties that feel a bit like chewing gum. The usual sheet forms (pond liner, gasket material) are stable like the varieties in vibration mounts, railway primary suspension etc.
 
I am about 60% through cabinet conversion/assembly. DSP setup after that.
Both the cabinet mods and the DSP setup are my very first attempts at these.

Remaining work:
- second (and maybe third) coat of paint
- soldering and attaching drivers to baffle and then to box
- internal lining of the MF chamber and routing the cables
- bolting on the back panel and amp

Hopefully setting up soon!
