Now that the world has come to normal and everything is fine.

So its expected that the AVR manufacturers will be back to announcing yearly AVR launches with new technologies and amazing trickle down features from higher models to lower models.

How soon will DENON announce replacements for the aging X3800H and X4800H ?

Also what's the DAC scene ? Has Denon been able to secure AKM chips for this years models ?

What are 2023/2024 most anticipated features ?

Looking forward to the X3900/X4900/X6800....!!!

From a quick search the statement these devices typically cycle every 2-3 years does not look correct.
I'm no expert though. Maybe someone else can confirm but it looks like from 2013 to 2020 a x3 was releases every year. Untill the 2021.
2013 x3000
2014 x3100
2015 x3200
2016 x3300
2017 x3400
2018 x3500
2019 x3600
2020 x3700
2022 x3800

I too am wondering if a x3900 would be released end of 2023. And if it would have the AKM DAC again.

I've read some of the discussion on amirms 3800 review. The current 3800 has the TI chip which reading the review by amirm is not quite as good as the previous akm one in the Sinad result. I read it may not be audible etc etc and can be argued it isn't a deal breaker. However if the 3900 is only a few months away and if It did have akm and Sinad improves (or TI etc and improves anyway) It's worth considering in the buying decision of buy now or wait and see. I'm not an expert but it's effecting my decision at present. I just want the best value I can if possible and I could wait for eg.

In the past. They stated in interviews with audioholics that they will not follow this 1 year cycle anymore. It will be 2-3 years for obvious reasons (no real innovations to be made every year).

Ah that is interesting. Thanks for info @hmt That would make my decision easier. Is it confirmed elsewhere? I think I've seen some of your replies in the 3800 review thread about the 10db Sinad difference and it's probably not audible. If its now a 2-3 year cycle I think I'd be happy with the 3800 in this scenario.

FWIW I'm guessing you wouldn't hear the difference between the dac at all (blind)and while it would be nice to get the latest DACs for the price point, if using the internal amps, it also makes the "SINAD" moot. IMHO.

I would use the preouts to my creek stereo amp for the fronts. Would the advice be the same?

"Aging"?
I know things get old quickly but these aren't 2 years old, yet...
Any breakthrough in Audio Technology that would warrant a new line up?

Peace

AVR is also about video processing, especially with HDMI 2.1 features, so they also need new lineup even though audio remains largely unchanged.
but I completely agree, AVR is meant to be used at least 3 years. calling x800h lineup aging is … cringle. majority of denon users are still on x700h, and x400-x600h should still be quite popular.

What would you expect in feature set changes to such (your 3900/4900/6800 proposal) to be worth waiting for or exchanging for over current offerings?

That's right. If you use internal amp, then performance is not limited by preamp. If you don't, then you probably won't hear the difference ;)

Wasn't like this already? I mean new models with minor changes each year and about 2-3 years to get some real upgrade? They still can do it.

Reliable firmware? Some real support for HDMI-CEC? I guess it could be done as a minor upgrade ;)

The.only 'breakthrough' I'm aware of is DIRAC ARC, which seams to be something like a full speaker derivative of MSO.

Side note: If that's what it is, there's a decent argument for it being used up to the room transition frequency only. Time will tell.

Agree. Silly AVR is happy to pass through signals, but will only turn on manually (except in very rare instances.) If I try to disable pass-though, it disables CEC altogether - idiotic!

Thanks for info. Do you have a source to verify that @PHD
It's the same guy to told me about the Dirac-Denon collaboration back in 2021 and about the secret beta FW to support Dirac ART. He's an insider. I'm on the fence with the X4800H and asked him if I should wait for X4900H to arrive so the X4800H's price will drop. He told me there is no current R&D taking place at all, and no X900 for the next 2 years. The next line, however, could add support for AI-based interface and audio processing, but that's just an idea, yet to be brought to any workbench...
