Anton, are you also the photographer, Mike Manzone?

I'm a terrible photographer. If you can even call yourself a photographer when you take pictures with your phone BUT a few years ago I managed to take ONE good picture. It's a view of a frozen sea.:)

Well, these new phones have some pretty incredible processing capabilities. I took these two sunset shots with my Samsung S24 Ultra and look how much foreground shadow detail there is, yet without the sunset being totally blown out. The only difference between these two pics is a slight difference in ISO.

I also had my Nikon D7200 with me and took a couple shots with it, but in order to get good exposure of the sunset, the foreground was completely black. And this was while using Nikon's Active D-Lighting. I don't know how they do it but these cell phone camera makers have some really good engineers and algorithms.

You need to crop it (remove the foreground) and slightly rotate it for a straight horizon - that will make it a great shot.

You need to shoot a normal cam in raw and correct exposure differently for sky and earth. My Pixel 8 pro does this all by itself. Night shots are incredible good.

Thanks, well, I'm too old to be spending that much time in post-processing! But I do shoot my Nikon in RAW+JPEG.

Yep. It would be great if the cameras and raw converters could adopt the sophisticated postprocessing algorithms used in highend smartphones. Just think about what the combination of a full frame camera and smartphone processing could achieve with respect to image quality ...
