WiiM Pro - Review & Measurements (Streamer)

I just hookup a Pro to SU1 through Optical and listened to some music from my phone ( from CDs). Note that i connect to the Pro through Wifi. I was disappointed. The same music sounds much much better from my phone to BlueDento BT receiver to SU1. Do i miss anything?
The source is connected to SMSL A300 amp.
Digitally wiims are considered transparent so if you think a BT receiver sounds better either stick with BT or there’s something not right

@longma you can analyze and troubleshoot digital audio transmissions yourself using a $30 Hifime UR23 and the free software Room EQ Wizard.

If there's a difference between the WiiM and your BT receiver, then this can tell you.

Sounds much better... possibly. Technically, it is sure it does not sound more true to the source.
I understand what you mean. That is why i wonder if i did anything wrong.
I tried different sources with my amp and speakers
-Oppo 205 directly to my amp
-Onkyo 7555 CD player to SU1 DAC to amp
-Pixel 6 -> Blue Dento BT receiver -> SU1 DAC. I listen mostly with this setup for it us convenient and it sounds very closed to the others.
Now i would try WiiPro to SU1. Not to my expectations.

I don't understand where the music you are listening is stored.
I guess stored on the phone then streamed to the WiiM.

He said phone, then cd's!?
I copied the CDs to files and saved them in my phones. The quality of the music from phone to bt receiver to su1 is closed to my Oppo205 (CD).

I listen to normal Amazon Prime music ( not hifi). It sounds pretty good, better than my phone to bt receiver to SU1.

Can i listen music from YouTube through Wii Pro? Does it sound better with Coaxial or with Optical Cable?

I think i will keep this one, for i got it for BF sale $120.

The best way is using your phone just as controller, through wiim home app, and let the wiim read and decode files from the streaming services or from your local network (use it like a streamer, not like a receiver, it is not very good this way). You can listen to yt casting the audio stream to wiim pro or connecting the tv or pc to wiim with toslink. I don't remember a YTmusic app in wiim home. No difference beetween coax and toslink out. What you say is very confusing, I don't understand what you think is better and what you find deceiving nor hoaw you usually listen to your music files (what BT codec you use?).

Very helpful to me, thank you for doing this testing! I am lucky to have great classical FM station over the air reception (KCNV 89.7 Las Vegas) to a lovely sounding Sony ST-J75 tuner, and I use the analog input of a wiim pro to get multi-room FM listening and TIDAL streaming with my two other wiim minis. Your testing showed me how to get the most out of the analog ADC input. And showed us to avoid the EQ, and airplay. I use wifi for the multi-room and the optical outputs from the wiims to external dacs in all 3 rooms.
I tried for years to get satisfactory multi-room but never achieved it until I got my 3 wiims. Thanks again!

Serious soundquality comparisons in progress with a Klimax DS renew .

I admire your rigour,
‘After testing the WiiM pro as a digital transport for several weeks using Tunemethod to find the most musical 5 volt power supply for the Wiim, it is powered with an ipad supply from 2012. This made small improvements in the flow of the music compared to the stock power supply.’

Hopefully you ensured that you had sufficient burn in on the stock PS, otherwise you're clearly just making a stab in the dark

A request in a conversation to measure the eventual noise pollution on the grid from stock power supply for the WiiM pro has been made to Vintageflanker

Please bear with me if it was already discussed, but is still any negative impact on sound from using EQ, PEQ?

does anyone know if these can be grouped (either multiple wiim pro or wiim pro in combination with e.g. chromecast audio) in the google home app?
