Me too, happy to find the origin of the issue. Genelec dealer was so gentle that he recovered my 8030C speakers only because I told my preference to G Three model just by connecting to the WiiM Ultra.

So I sent him speakers and he sent me the G Threes and bought the WiiM, and after bothering the seller and spending the 400€ to the WiiM, it sounded so bad!

And I didn’t know if the problem was the G Threes connection or the WiiM…

I don’t know if there’s an adjustment to set the volume on different steps, but probably if many people complaints they will release a firmware update, it seem to be a couple of code lines to do that.
Great, well now you are ruling out using the iFi Zen DAC Signature V2....? Correct.

Absolutely, I wish to say that direct connection between WiiM Ultra and the G Threes works better than the Ifi Zen DAC, but Antcollinet will correct me in seconds :)

I don’t know how a software issue can affect the signal without stopping to work or cracking sounds.

On the Genelec side the sensitivity is quite high, so I down the Ultra output to 1 Vrms to benefit of range of volume covering classical and rock music.

Also I noticed some minor issues that had disappeared when resetting and reloading new firmware. Mono setting that appreciate a lot because for casual ambient music I prefer one single speaker, worked very bad, volume went down and sounded like if it was a heavy curtain between the speakers and me.

Now sounds fantastic, is a nice implementation of mono signal, when doing so in my iphone with other setups, it doesn’t sound so clean neither.

I have a question, did you do the Restore Factory Settings that is inside the Wiim app?

I hope, I’m a little obsessive :)

Next step will be the subwoofer but I have at least a whole year to learn integration with home and speakers before my account tolerates buying one
With Genelec G series you can get the Genelec F2 subwoofer which has a hub built in, you can attach your WiiM digital and use volume control in the Genelec.

I have a KEF sub, I even put it next to the Wiim and my MA6800 with BW 804s speakers, I was thinking about adding a sub, thinking it would improve, from the test I did, I saw that I was going to waste money, because simply, in my case, I noticed that the Wiim cuts the bass and throws it to the sub. So far so good... it's the procedure. But the quality that my speakers and amplifier deliver, I saw that nothing changed, so I gave up on the sub. But I think this will depend a lot on the amplifier and cabinets you have.

Is that I thought to take, I has some doubts with the 7050 but my girlfriend hates the design arguing it looks as an industrial ventilator :)

So F2 being accepted by the aesthetic jury, was the second on the list. Do you have one?

No , I don't own them. I noticed you were trying to use different volume controls and the F2 subwoofer can be used like a preamp/ hub with volume control.

It's also a Chinese restaurant.

It was motivated by an issue on the WiiM unit, after resetting to factory values now it works perfectly.

Thanks to your suggestion anyway, I can use either the sub output of the WiiM, the analogue RCA inputs or the coaxial. Probably the first option will give more control

It would be against the normal way of doing things, DAC chip manufacturers have this covered, there is little for the designer to do. The digital output isn't part of the dac so would need to be designed by them, unless some SOC they used did it for them. Didn't they change the volume steps for the digital output at some stage with firmware?
Reply from Wiim in same thread - Hi joffy1780,

There is a volume table ranging from 0 to 100 that applies to both digital and analog audio output. Our DAC supports 32-bit input, which we utilize to maintain bit depth. Additionally, intermediate processing is designed to preserve sample value accuracy throughout.

I have posted this question on the WiiM Home Forum too, but I thought this community might have an additional technical perspective.
I am thinking about using a WiiM Ultra on my desktop (where I can see the and touch the screen easily or use the headphone out on occasion) to control the audio stream to a preamp and speaker setup at the back of my room which is connected to a WiiM Pro by digital coaxial (the Pro unit is now 'spare' for me since I picked up the Ultra). I would group the Ultra and the Pro in the app.
Basically I am trying to avoid having to run a 6m coaxial connection from my Ultra to the stereo on the back wall of my room - and instead get the same outcome wirelessly.
Main use would be streaming Tidal. I am content to have my preamp's DAC do its work (it is a Rotel RC 1572mkii and I have been happy with it).
What could be the downsides of that plan?

I don’t see any issue, WiiM App allows you to control another WiiM device which is connected to the speaker, being Ultra the controller in your case, the Pro will act as a receiver. All features remain the same.
