What's going on? I spent 30 minutes carefully writing a post, hoping to get some ideas and help, and it gets deleted without a notice? What's going on here? What did I do?

Hi @Octopuss! Welcome to ASR.

See here regarding the missing thread:
This just occurred to me that I may not have mentioned it before. When a new member starts their first few posts they must be manually approved by a Moderator. This process is designed to stop Spammers. Anyway once the post/thread is approved it goes public. However, if the author goes back 5 mins later and edits this post/thread. It will be sent back to the approval queue and disappear from public view until approved again. Some new members will edit their original post dozens of times. Resulting in the post/thread appearing and disappearing multiple times. Normally this is not a problem. But for a special few.

Hope that helps to further clarify what the heck is going on! ;)

More information in the accompanying thread.

Oh ok. It was there for a while and then it disappeared, which is why I thought it was deleted. If I couldn't post at all due to newly registered account I wouldn't be surprised though.

As a new member your first 10 or so posts must be manually approved by the Mods. This is a Spam prevention tool. What happened here is you submitted your first post. It was approved and it went public. You came back a little while later and did a few Edits to the post and when you hit Save the system kicked the post back to the approval queue and de-published the post until it was manually approved again. Once you get past the minimum post threshold this will stop happening and your posts will remain published while editing and the new version will immediately publish when you hit the save button.

Hope that helps you understand what was happening. Welcome Aboard @Octopuss .
