Hello all … wasn’t sure of best place to post this, mods feel free to move to different sub thread if this is wrong one.

I have a collection of 100s of CDs that I never use any longer (only streaming and the occasional LP), going back to the early 80s. Any ideas on best places to sell my collection? Last thing I want to do is toss them in the garbage, that would be a travesty and I am sure someone would love to have some of them anyway.

Appreciate any and all ideas!

Thanks

If you've ripped any of them, it's best to keep the CD discs at least, as you only 'own' the physical media, not the digital contents. A pal of mine ditched the 'jewel-boxes' and slipped the disc and paperwork/booklets into the plastic sleeves available for CD-Rs. he then got the CD storage 'shoeboxes' to put them in and then up into the loft.

Unless the CD titles are rare, here in the UK, firms like Music-Magpie and so on, offer pennies per disc, then sold at massive markups on eBay or Amazon. I've been grateful to find rare discs however, from these sources. Obviously and with apologies, I can only speak from the impoverished UK.

Maybe Discogs or eBay. I think Discogs can also you can get an idea of which ones are rare and more valuable. (I don't have any buying or selling experience with either.) You might be able to sell on Amazon. There are lots of 3rd-party sellers on Amazon. Most of them seem to be "companies" but with more than 100 CDs you might be able to set-up a seller's account.

Funny story... I bought a used VHS tape from Amazon. It was something not available on DVD. I think I paid $20 or $30. It had a $1.99 Goodwill price tag on it! Somebody donated it to Goodwill, somebody else bought it for $2 and sold it to me for a nice profit! I didn't mind because I never would have found it at my local Goodwill.

Any local record stores? Most carry some CDs, will pay at least something for decent titles. You wou;dn't make a lot, but it would be a easy way to flip them if they'd be willing to make a package offer for the whole lot...?

eBay. Buy yourself some cd mailers.

My hundreds of discs are all ripped to a drive and are in several boxes in the basement where they will still be when I shuffle off this mortal coil... since they are worth so little I don't see the point in dumping them and there is the long shot they may come in handy someday.

If I did decide to sell, I suppose Discogs is where I would go.
