What is going on with threads being shut down??

not the top...

It might be time for a statement. Watch what you wish for and try thinking backwards. Quite something to lose here.

What's going on ?
It seems pretty clear that there was a disagreement between the Mods and the host on the management of the political Thread.
I honestly didn't understand the Mods' decision to close every discussion, even the civil ones on the subject, but I understand even less that thread of solitary venting without the possibility of replies.
If a topic shouldn't be discussed, that's fine with me, if it can be discussed I think it's right to allow everyone to express themselves, otherwise it's not a forum but a blog.

Seriously guys.

Are we that soft around here that we can't have a discussion without mods killing threads? What a joke.

Why I hate tariffs

What's the point of a FORUM? Look it up. It's Latin for all you ignorant people. It means a place where there is an open exchange of thoughts and ideas.
If you want to have controversial off-topic discussions, John, I recommend Audioholics. It's not as good an audio site, IMO not even close, but pretty much anything goes discussion-wise.

OK, I'm starting to feel a bit uncomfortable. Basically, it's Amir's rules that apply in his forum. His rant about tariffs is remarkable, as he must have realised that this is a deeply political issue and was bound to provoke a reaction. Preventing any reactions to it and at the same time fixing the thread on the homepage is provocative, to say the least. And the fact that apparently all the mods, for whatever reason, are no longer doing their valuable jobs (thank you all for your efforts!) leaves room for speculation.

I'm worried about this unique place.
I would think throughout the world & also in the USA there is not much support for the recent trade developments, I'm guessing Amir feels so strongly about it that it's sidestepping the no politics rules that have been in place, at least to some degree. Whatever, I suppose, it's an audio forum so I don't mind if there's not supposed to be any politics, at the same time I don't mind seeing a few posts, but it's true you don't want entire threads getting swamped with it when it's not what the site is about.

We tried to moderate out the political from the purely economic but it just doesn't work . So closing threads that may start out purely factual and reporting policy /legislation is the only viable option to stop both aggressive posts and a large volume of reports to adjudicate.

How that tension will be handled from now on will not be my concern

If this was the reason, it's understandable, but in can be discussed in general how to handle it. Moving out can't be a solution.

@amirm up to you now for some wisely chosen words? Let’s not wreck this place as there is no other.

Quick fix ;)

Code:
@-moz-document domain("audiosciencereview.com") {
/* Ignore thread... */

.js-threadListItem-62119.js-inlineModContainer
{
display: none !important;
}

}

I suppose if there are no mods, I can give my full support to the Gaffer for stating his opinion on this matter?

This Forum was for some years the place, with a very friendly and moderate language (mostly). The moderators had a significant part on it. The style was not infected from the change outside. Hopefully we can conserve this civilized approach.

Watching now, hoping for some clarity soon. Big thanks to the Mods for your work so far, it can't be easy but it's necessary and appreciated.

Where I come from everything is considered politics directly or undirectly, I didn't like that some perfectly civil conversations were shut down.

However an internet site isn't a public space, freedom of speech is technically not a right on a private platform ruled by a chart, so I'd never call it a denial of democracy.

There's obviously been a clash, which means a lack of communication, will to compromise, and creativity to find a collectively acceptable solution, with people bending on conservative positions.

I'd love this thread (or a New one) to become a place to bring solutions to this issue.

Personally I'd avocate for a possibility for forum users to avoid political (in the large sense of politic) threads if they wish to. I'd also advocate for a possibility for mods to not have to deal with those, culture wars have made some damage and I can understand some want to avoid a headache.

I'd also like political threads, if there are, to be solely aimed at policies, not people, no one is binded by a politician, a policy, or even by their vote: let's be civil.
