What is going on with threads being shut down??

I'd also like political threads, if there are, to be solely aimed at policies, not people, no one is binded by a politician, a policy, or even by their vote: let's be civil.
Alas this is a public forum and that is neither realistic nor capable of being moderated objectively or consistently .
Some topics go Political quicker than others but do some testing . Start threads with very neutral information on a topic such as firearms legislation, climate change or healthcare and see how long it takes to go downhill .

Are we that soft around here that we can't have a discussion without mods killing threads? What a joke.
This forum has rules (like many other forums in the world...) there are forbidden topics both because they are off topic and because they can create conflicts.

P.S. I read all the posts: what an absurd situation.

I understand your point, it's perfectly valid. You can't expect everyone to be civil and you can't expect moderators to be totally objective, they can't be whatever the subject, but they can do their best if they wish to.
I don't have much experience on other audio-stuff-oriented sites, I'd like to know if those who are less sensitive on this topic have gone downhill, if not how they dealt with it and what solutions they've come with.

Another forum I participate in (explicitly political) had to shut down all public posting earlier this year for quite a while to re-calibrate. The tenor of comments had degraded rapidly since late last year to the point that mods couldn't cope. The site owner seemed very upset.

@Jimbob54 were you a mod long enough to observe a marked increase in difficulty of the job?

If a site is successful in terms of audience, participation and growth then the difficulty of maintaining order/civility will grow too. If, in addition to that, exogenous factors make participants in general more angry and emotional etc. then it makes complete sense to me that a site owner could reach the point that they say, I can't or won't do this any more.

So I advocate, let's not push it. Respect our host's boundaries.

Just to clarify I was referring to the specific threads on those topics going down hill , not the whole site .

I was not. I just know that an increasing membership brings new dynamics to a site as inevitably the background of the membership changes significantly.
