Topping PA5 fix - D01 Module Replacement for everyone

ive posted a guide on how to order pre-assembled pcbs on jlcpcb on page 2
just open the other design in the editor at the exporting step
Wov....you are great! Thank you so much!

topping appears to be offering (and I received mine) a free pa5ii for people with busted pa5's.

They will charge you $20 (payable via paypal with international fee) for shipping if your warranty is expired. You use your old power supply, which is the same as the pa5ii plus power supply.

edit: someone pinged me asking how I did it, I just emailed [email protected] and asked if I could get a replacement and they said yes. Just had to send picture of my serial and of the destroyed pa5. (I enjoyed the hell out of that part)

Destroyed, as in you had to show you had hit it with a hammer?

If they're following the same model as the early L30 replacements a hammer would do. Others drilled holes through them. Anything to make sure it doesn't work and couldn't be sold on eBay or similar.

Dear all,

I got a similar offer for replacement of my two PA5 units.
Are there forum members who can confirm, that the delivery of the replacement units was done reliably?
(which is approx delivery time?)
That is not meant to offend Topping company, but I would not like to destroy my partially working PA5 units and then get no replacement.
Destroying the units is hard enough :)

The replacement worked well for me. (I’m in the mid-Atlantic, US.)

I initiated the RMA in late January, sending them $20 via PayPal.

They were out of stock on the black units so that delayed things a bit. As I recall, total turnaround time was around three weeks.

Topping requires you to destroy the old amps. For some, I guess that may be satisfying.

All in all, $20 plus an hour of my time beats a $300 doorstop sitting in a box collecting dust. And for me, it also beats paying $50 for one of the reverse-engineered D01 boards and the ensuing disassembly, desoldering and module replacement which presents a number of opportunities to screw things up, though I do appreciate the effort to fix Toppings mess.

To be honest, I took the plunge about two years ago and bought an Audiophonics, Purifi amp so my Topping hasn’t seen much use in quite a while. (One of my friends may end up with a nice gift in the not-to-distant future!)

So how did you destroy it?

With glee!

A drill, a pair of pliers, front wheel of your car, gasoline. Be creative.

Topping asks for photos of your work so throwing it off a cliff probably isn’t the best idea though it might be very fun!

A camera with a small telephoto lens, e.g. Canon 1200mm, would help with this ;)

I can report that the replacement worked very well for me, too.
Topping sent out two PA5 II immediately after I emailed photos of the destroyed devices and after I transferred 40$ (=2*20$ obviously) via PayPal.
The turnaround time was 7 days!

Me too - excellent service from Topping - something I didn't expect to say tbh
