I see it as a feature, not a bug. My most frequent complaint about pads are their stiffness, so making the foam softer faster is not a problem. Though in practice, I have not noticed any wear on the pads from these stands. I actually tried to intentionally wear down the foam in another set of pads for the Meze 99 by forcibly compressing them for long periods of time, hoping it would make them softer. But it didn't seem to make any difference.
I want one! This is the first good solution I have seen to tidy up the cords.
Maybe just buy this and add door knobs. I may actually do it.

Barring finding this JackCubeDesign stand at a reasonable price...
Ever seen these? Only 400€... LOL
I am leaning towards buying one of these from AliExpress.

I am no longer interested in a DIY version of this design. The top one looks like something certain ladies in certain films sit on.

Nice! Maybe it is good that they don't clamp because the pads will never become deformed, as long as they actually stay on the contraption.I bought one and the Focal Clears don't even clamp on it:

I think the Audeze LCD-3 might fit better. (They are with Audeze being repaired but should be back home soon.)
I bought cabinet knobs to make a cable wrap. Pictures soon...

Your platter lacks mass. It clearly needs to be biggerI bought one and the Focal Clears don't even clamp on it:
