Are we keeping up: http://www.avsforum.com/forum/89-sp...iewed-speakers-ever-made-49.html#post54813992

By the way, today is October 17, 2017
Official Windows 10 Fall Creators Update

Did you know that October is the 10th month of the year.
And that if you add the numbers from the year 2017 (2 + 0 + 1 + 7) you get 10

And, that if you add all the numbers from the full/complete date: 10/17/2017 (1 + 0 + 1 + 7 + 2 + 0 + 1 + 7) you get 19 ( 1 + 9 = 10) ...Month/Day/Year

Let's see...

A bunch of stuff about mono, one mic, one speaker, blah blah.

An Alan Parsons Project album cover. Man, Eye in the Sky was cool...

Floyd Toole acknowledging that others following his research is gratifying...

Floyd explaining what a model is...

228 posts more to go...

WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO BE LOOKING FOR?

It was the first time that Floyd Toole joined the AVS Forum with that thread, and his friend who started the thread, John Schuermann, got banned for two weeks and we don't see him much anymore, even after time served...understandably so.
It is always interesting and educational to read Floyd Toole's writings and postings.
It's up to each one of us to reap the benefits from a professional audio explorer in the arts of sound advancement. He is one of the authorities in our world of audio science. ...But you already knew that...so anything else is simply a bonus.

Ten additional pages, with John's regular return, Floyd's continued participation, Markus' output, Don's feedback, and some other bright players with an eye towards science in the art of customer service and satisfaction.
We sell what we promote or our names are not printed in the rear connection faceplate.

...Plus couple wise asses (Kellogg FrootLoops crackerjacks), more than a couple, to even the playield and make the discussion more lively and less professional by pretending being experts in a field of audio salesmen, and Hollywood's shenanigans starlets of the underground hypocrisy. Mods need no applying here; they don't know what's going on and even less see what they can't talk about.

It's free and anyone/everyone can read and get the scoop of the matter that suits him/her best in their disposition, science included but not necessarily the absolute scriptures of the theoretical audio bible. For that all the galaxies of the universe are still open to the vast space of our brain, constantly in development, for time perpetuity.

Simply put, it is obvious where our money should go; to the best pair of loudspeakers with the best set of measurements and listening tests plus our preferred looks if one matters less than the other. ...Room to be build around; dimensions, acoustical properties, propagation, sound character, ...all that jazz.

I think there are some filling of details at times in Dr. Toole's posts. As when I heard him in person, there is more to the story than his book. Some of that comes through in those posts.

But yes, in other cases it is the same message but it is important to keep saying it especially on AVS where it has its own made up idea of acoustic science. Here is an example from Dr. Toole:

"Your questions are entirely reasonable. Unfortunately, as much as we would like to be able to analyze the performance of loudspeakers in rooms, it remains elusive. It is the loudspeaker that determines the perceived timbre above the transition frequency. This performance, and predictions of room curves, and predictions of subjective ratings are all remarkably possible from anechoic data. However, once the 3D sound field from a loudspeaker is launched into a somewhat reflective room the ability to be critically analytical is substantially lost. Two ears and a brain not only differentiate between direct and reflected sounds but they are aware of where those reflections came from - it makes a difference. An omni mic is "blind" to this information. Time windowing involves a trade-off: the shorter the window, the poorer the frequency resolution and therefore the ability to identify resonances, the most common problem in loudspeakers. Nevertheless, obviously the data are useful at high frequencies."

That's great, but what's the new info that wasn't known before?

That is exactly the point; the circle of audio teeth. Just something to keep circling around. ...A manège in French.

And not to be confused with the Audio's "Circle of Confusion".

Here's a more pronounced circle of confusion (the one above is actually pretty good and not confusing @ all):

Sound propagation, requalification, equalisation, parametric parameters, stereo, multi channel, dispersion, room acoustics, JBL Synthesis, ARCOS ...

Is there a dedicated thread on this?
