Kali LP-6 Review: Studio Monitor

It doesn't make market sense to make an LP-5. To get the performance we'd want, it'd need to be nearly as expensive to make as an LP-6, which means that the retail price wouldn't be appreciably lower. I don't think too many people are going to buy an LP-5 for $145 if they can get an LP-6 for $4 more.

That doesn't rule out *other* 5-inch speakers from Kali, however. ;)

Perhaps, but doesn't dispersion control play a role in driver selection? In the market you're in, we're talking about home studios, very small, stuff is in very close proximity. That 1" difference could be the difference in soundstage, timbre, etc.

Personally I am out of the market but for size restricted uses the 5” would be a good option even at same cost in Asia as we have really tiny room and every inch matters! And any chance to optimise the port resonance?

Unfortunately I can only give cryptic replies about how we're looking to address this. But we have an announcement coming soon.

There's a chance! More info coming soon!.

Great, just FYI I am not in the market right now, but interested in any slim subwoofer with high pass filter XLR out, if you guys are developing something for that will be good

What kills this for me is the reports of too loud hiss. A shame as performance and price are excellent.

Here's data on the degree of the hiss problem, if that helps.

Room noise or mic+pre noise??

Room noise. The mic plus pre is far below that and took heroic effort to measure when I reviewed it.

Is there any info on Y axis calibration and mic distance from the speaker?

Excellent questions: about 30 cm, midway between woofer and tweeter. All are about 1m off the floor.

Calibration of SPL is NIST-traceable. PCB Piezotronics 1/2" condenser omni, APx1701 interface, APx525 analyzer.

Thank you. Similarly as you, I am a specialist of excellent questions ;).

I would be very grateful if someone will clarify one thing for me.
I have my own pair of this Kalis, which I bought to make my first steps in mixing. While my studio is being built I already listened to some music tracks. I'm satisfied. I did as it was recomended somewhere: "leave volume potentiometers at 0 db on both speakers".

After that, while watching many educational videos about mixing, one teacher told that calibration process is very important.
I got my knowledge about it from this video:
And I wonder - SPL-meter is a must-have for me? There is no way that my Superlux ECM999 will show adequate SPL by itself? Some guy told me, that this is true - measurement mic cannot show objective levels.

I tried to do it with my telephone SPL-app and I discovered that modern phones have built-in compressor that roughly affects indicators...

So I really am forced to buy myself a 40£ SPL-meter in order to get an adequate calibration, right?

I bought these speakers and connected the sound from the motherboard's REALTEK ALC S1200A output with the following 5 Meter cable, but why is there an annoying background noise and interference and when I move the mouse pointer noise it gets louder, this noise can be heard loudly. I guess there was this kind of problem with the old series of these speakers. Which series have this kind of noise problem?
