I had posed the question about this vs. the Schiit Modi+. Both are very comparable spec wise, so it came down to a few reviews about company philosophy/ customer support, several emails with John S., and the engravable HEVI top. Sounds much better than the built in Mac Mini dac (M1 2020 year, apparently newer M2 Macs have improved internal dac?). Also loving the Stealie on top!

How much better is Atom Dac compared to the fiio K3s? is it $100 better? asking because it's the only two decent Dac I can think of that works with PS5
@Chesapeake HT Was the stealie done by them? Love it. Is that additional on top of the HEVI upcharge?

Contacting JDS is the best thing, but yes they will engrave just about any design. B&W images work best. The engraving was a no additional cost option. Did some dancing bears on one headphone amp and Bertha on a second one! Great company.
So I know this isn't the best place to put this question*, but I have an Atom DAC 2 and it keeps "dying" in Windows (10, if that matters) on my laptop. The DAC will remain connected and considered active by Windows - the speaker icon in the bottom-right will still say USB audio device, JDS Labs Atom DAC 2, etc. but no more sound will come out until I power cycle the DAC.
Does anyone have any ideas? It is connected through a USB hub, but, it's connected the same way on my desktop as well and I can't recall ever having this issue when running on the desktop.

Just bought one, at christmas special 59$US, lovely machine, better minute by minute, i needed a toslink solution, but USB, sound good to, it will replace my NOS dongle, if the sound continue to be that good!
anyone could tell me if breakin of a unit, is very long? 12hours; 24; a weeks?

The device will be at specification when new. It will be sounding at it's finest right out of the box. Break-in is a myth and it's urban rumors.

well thanks, so far, it sound better than my WiiM pro plus and it replace my shanling ET3, less fuss, more music!
it just a great little beast!
maybe, i will give a try to one of his preamp, to go with my Schiit amp mono Rekkr (that will be discontuned soon!)
it sound so good, that i have a pile of discarded CD, that i re play and to my amazement, they are not sounding awful, as i taugh!
I don't want to burst your bubble in a rude way but I must say that they in all probability sound the same if compared voltage matched and in a AB or ABX comparison. DACs do that well in that they sound the same unless they are colored and the frequency response output is colored by intentional or non-intentional causation.

that's what i suspected!, my cayin, RU6 sound tube, but it is colored, and please me that way!
ET3, cost 1500$ and wiim around 300$, and shanling, sold a product that is not top spec and lousy app to manage it, so not a keeper.
Wiim is a smart computer with no keyboard or mouse to stream music, but you could do better with a DAC and old apple or windows computer!
JDSlab rules and the only thing missing is NOS choice, but that's another story and schiit multibit as a product for that but cost 3 times more...

LoL... I too have a JDS Labs DAC, a JDS Labs DAC+. It sounds fine and @amirm gave it a good review for good engineering with a average DAC chip. It served me very well. I can see new headphones in my future but the DAC+ is enough for my needs.
The JDS Atom DAC is a delta-sigma (single-bit) design. Non-oversampling is basically not possible because oversampling is fundamental to delta-sigma operation.

I wonder if the sale is in preparation of a parametric EQ enabled version.
Especially considering I happily paid almost as much for the Ol' Switcher that is presumably a simpler design.
This is a GREAT deal for anyone who needs an excellent sounding, powered DAC with USB and Optical inputs only (no coax). I love mine!
