I realize I never commented on this review. In conclusion, here are my personal thoughts.
Yet that is what it delivers. Buchart's speakers are not intended to be run at 96 dB that often, so at normal levels the tuning will give you a perceptually great experience. In my room, even the non-Purifi versions don't roll off until under 30 Hz. And because of our difficulty in hearing distortion at such low frequencies, it doesn't matter nearly as much as you'd think in the bass region.Buchardt has been a manufacturer of interest to me for some time. They used sufficiently good materials, but I think they spoiled the end result with overly ambitious settings.
Despite having a 6.5-inch woofer, this speaker is very compact, with the trim ring's diameter and the enclosure's width nearly identical. I don't believe many users would expect deep bass in the 20-30Hz range from such a small speaker. (Expecting that might be unreasonable…)
Adding subs cleans up the sound a bit, but not dramatically, in my experience. It does give them more headroom. In my small-room home theater with subs, they do just fine at 85 dB with occasional peaks into the 90's.Nevertheless, I think I will end up giving this speaker a fairly high score. If used with a subwoofer setting that cuts off the lows, it will show unbelievably strong performance for its size. Even without a subwoofer, if the user applies a suitable filter in the low frequencies considering the size, it will still deliver very reliable performance.
Considering the small-room 2.0 system design goal, I think they made the right choices. I, too, like the aesthetic of the speakers and don't run the grilles, and their dispersion pattern is wide and even to accommodate a row of recliners. According to the measurements you need to get the speaker & seat height right, but I've tested varying heights and not found huge differences. YMMV.But I must emphasize once again... if only they had been a little less ambitious with the bandwidth!
Thanks for the quality measurements.
