That's a great photo.

I haven't had very much experience with greyhounds but I am hugely attracted to them. All the ones I've met seem calm, together and friendly without being silly. They usually look great, though not always as good as Gigi (though we all look better in perfect lighting like that). And they seem to have a sort of reserved confidence that I like to presume comes from the knowledge that they can get away with anything thanks to escalation superiority in escape.

Glad Lucy came back; as that story usually does not end that well.:)
Thanks. We went again this morning and kept the dogs leashed in the danger zone. Both showed extreme prey-drive fairly close to where the encounter happened yesterday.

When we were actually face to face with a confrontational doe a couple of years ago, Lucy was the smart one. She got between me and my wife, stayed close, kept quiet at a safe distance and watched closely. Zeno, on the other hand, put on a big though-guy theater like the little punk he is.

I grew up with wippets (same kind of gazehound, just smaller). I recommend them if you're a cat person, but would like a dog. Less barking, drooling and other annoying dog traits.

They're the best dogs ever. Once you have a GH in your life, there's no going back. It's a bit if a cult if I'm being honest. Gigi is especially pretty, even for a GH.

I don't [want to] know if 'greyhound-racing' is still a thing south-of-the-border!
From what I [want to] remember of the 1980s, there was a big rescue/adoption organization for young greyhounds, because - after a few years of racing - they were considered 'spent'.
When a buddy adopted one, he was told to put duct-tape on glass sliding-doors... because [I presume] greyhounds bred to race do not know what glass is.

Greyhound eyes have always looked either sad or guilty, to me!:)

Greyhounds are indeed wonderful. We had two retired racers and they were both very sweet. They need "jammies" and coats and love being under blankets anytime other than summer! Hated all the hair though as we had Standard Poodles before them and after them and we don't think we'll ever have a "shedder" again.

They don't like it too hot or too cold, are unbelievably lazy, very sweet tempered, don't bark, love sofas, don't seem to smell and are very clean around the house... what's not to like :)

Until Monday just before lunchtime I have enjoyed the sometimes magic presence of my Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriver, Frisby.

Here's his obituary from Tuesday:
Our beloved Frisby Grange of Clan Buchanan crossed yesterday the rainbow bridge towards the land of limitless cookies, endless rivers to roam and unimaginable nice smells to sniff.
After exercising an hour of swimming at his most favorable place, the Ile de la Metairie at the Loire river, he suffered a stroke in my arms and was put into transit 30 minutes later. Frisby had been diagnosed with terminal throat cancer & a heart condition just 6 weeks before, but he enjoyed his last 4 swims in the last fortnight - when he was in the water he was such a happy puppy.
We are having a serious heatwave today with almost 40°C (felt like 44°C says the weather forecast) and I would really love to think that he got a rather perfect Au Revoir instead of suffering hours or days under (t)his condition.
Farewell my love.

I have attached some pics and two videos from his last hour of excitement
edit: I couldn't attach the videos - here's the link from Instagram:

So sorry...

My condolences....

To maybe lighten the mood and completely change direction, here's a somewhat blurry photograph of a Neogonodactylus wennerae that has recently come under my care as a stowaway on some Gulf Live Rock that I purchased for the beginning of a reef aquarium, Although he won't go into the main display tank, I can't get rid off him now. Way too smart and endearing.

Thanks for sharing pics and vid of Frisby. It was nice to see him cooling off with a swim and rolling around on a hot day.

Our Lucy has, apart from color, the appearance of an NSDTR and is a natural water retriever. She rolls like that after a swim and loves to be toweled dry when we get home. Your video of Frisby looks so similar.

Pets become family members and we love them accordingly. Sometime we frankly grief the passing of pet as much as that of human relative.

Kuma was with us for 14 years until her arthritis became just too much. She suffered terribly for her last couple of years; it became too much for her to bear and for us to witness.
