I'm mulling a new receiver since I have a nice shiny new OLED that does 120Hz VRR and a big gaming PC that can drive it, but there are annoying issues with feeding the TV direct from the computer. My current receiver (X4400H) doesn't do HDMI 2.1 so no 120fps for me.
So I'm debating a new receiver but nothing thrills me, and the nice ones that I REALLY want are just too much more than I'm willing to spend (like an Arcam AVR21). These two are the top candidates given that I've used Denon now and in the past, and they are fine. Sadly, it seems like the shot their prices up and they are staying there. Going to the X4800H makes sense since it is the same model range that I have now but at $2500 I'm just debating if I really want to spend that much.
What would I trade off going with an X3800H? I don't see anything obvious at first glance, but it isn't like Denon has a great set of info on their site.
Amps are not a big concern, the receiver will drive the 4 surround speakers, the 3 mains are driven by an XPA-5.
If anyone has other recommendations, I'm open to them. Only requirements are full HDMI 2.1 support including VRR, ability to do 7.1, and external amp connectors. I don't hate the Dirac Live option though, as I've used that on my studio computer and it is bar none the best room correction I've heard. It's not a must, given that the great room where the TV sits is hardly ideal and my girlfriend is not willing to let me go nuts fixing that
