Sigberg Audio ‘Mantas’, if you feel it might be time to finish your audio journey and desire a final system without constraint, 124dB constant, completely full-range , double cardioid response then you might consider Sigberg Audio’s ‘Manta’.
Thorbjorn Sigberg believes that speakers should really be able to ‘rock’ unlimited volume, extremely low distortion with a wide and deep soundstage.
The ‘Mantas’ ( and his SBS.1 ) are designed to only extend down to 80Hz, they both use a co-axial mod/treble and a dedicated mid bass driver a 12” design in the Manta.
Bass is entirely the responsibility of the subwoofer/subwoofer which are preconfigured to integrate seamlessly with the main speakers.
Just this week we had a musician/producer audition the Mantas and he played some of his own material which included some uncompressed drumming, it was the most lifelike reproduction I had ever heard .
There really is no replacement for displacement.

I would actually consider selling offspring in order to fund a pair of these.
However, unfortunately I am childless.
Beautiful speakers.

We didn’t measure, but estimated we were playing the drumming at around 90dB, equilateral triangle sitting 2.5 metres away, his totally uncompressed material was superb, the Mantas are extremely capable, the drum kit was in the room.

For the customer with four subs, did s/he use two per side in stereo, four summed to mono, or something else?

Tom the customer only heard the Mantas for the first time earlier this week, here I have two of Thorbjørn’s D10 ( 4x10”) the guy is still involved in producing/mixing/mastering and his exact words were, he doesn’t believe there was a ‘perfect’ loudspeaker but of all the loudspeakers he had tried of which there were many including PMC,ATC, PSI, Kii, PDP, Genelec MEG etc the Mantas didn’t do anything wrong he usually has to eq and with the Mantas didn’t have to touch the EQ once, this was listening to his own music.
He firmly believes that there is no replacement for displacement so although our rooms are more or less the same size, he would need four subs, he is also looking at ‘waveforming’ with his Trinnov.
Keith

I think the sigberg audio ignition is the perfect waveforming sub looking at the measurements.

Edit due to mad iPhone

Yes, that setup with the 8 Inkognitos is pretty crazy. A lot of the result is thanks to the Trinnov Waveforming of course. If we look at just 20-100hz it looks even more crazy. Basically +/-1dB and this is still with zero smoothing. And the THD at this level (around 80dB at the listening position) was pretty much non-existant, and below the noise floor, so hard to measure properly - but REW reports 0.6% THD at 20hz, so in practice probably even less than that. :)

Very nice Keith (and @sigbergaudio !) … what is meant by “double cardioid”, I don’t recall hearing that term prior.

What is the size of your room Keith where the Mantas and dual D10s reside?

And I fully agree with our comment on displacement … as you have heard me state many a time on ASR, go big or go home! (regardless of room size, within reason of course, or maybe not )

I assume he is referring to the fact that it consists of dual (two) cardioid chambers. The 12" midbass driver and the coax has their own chambers. This means each system only cover a couple of octaves. This makes for a more efficient (less efficiency loss and less distortion) design compared to if that combined range had to be covered by only one driver / cardioid system.

Ah, I see, makes sense, thanks Thorbjorn

M my room, where the Mantas and 2xD10’s currently reside ( and I don’t see them moving) is approx 7x 5 x 2.4 metres I think, it is the standard Edwardian living room, bay window , fireplace, the best measurement and audibly the best sound is sitting around 2.5 metres away with the speakers approx the same distance apart. I have three RPG ‘Modex’ panels behind me, which really do work with low bass but you need a number of them .
I have been really impressed with the Mantas, and they have been really well received by everyone who has heard them here.
Even to the point where money has changed hands!
I would like to try the multiple subs route but …
Best
Keith

Just a quick reminder that Thorbjørn Sigberg’s superb 4 way ‘Manta’ dual cardioid loudspeakers ( plus 2xD10 subwoofers) are always available for evaluation at Purité Audio London, we have the SBS.1 and Inkognito ‘pizza box’ subwoofers too!
