Have you tried ps5 into tv, optical out of TV into modius?

my understanding is the ps5 will not output its 3d audio (tempest) over HDMI so that setup doesnt quite work

If they add a volume control and remote for $50 more there will be no more reason to buy Topping DACs.

There's no reason to buy Topping anything, ever. They're horrible products. Their amps just abuse reverse feedback to achieve trivial distortion measurements while sounding like corroded engine.

I have a Topping D70s DAC; it works well.
