Anyone Buy the New Schiit Mimir Yet?

Hey, I've heard some crappy news out of Schiit concerning DACs and their new Mimir setup with Forkbeard. I have the Modius and love it for what it is, however, after reading Jason's latest off the wall blog posting concerning his new product it got me thinking, a digital 3-band eq in the DAC, might save me some money from having to buy an external EQ but again, wasn't sure on the product since it's new and well, hasn't been reviewed yet here on the site by Amirm. So, has anyone purchased this yet or contemplating?

I'd be very surprised if anyone has gotten their hands on one yet, since it was just announced. But yeah, looking forward to seeing it reviewed here, hopefully, soon.

As usual, Schiit publishes their own AP measurements in the specs page, if you can understand them without Amir's annotation.

The only interesting thing about Mimir is the proprietary “Mesh” reconstruction filter. I think it’s cool that the concept comes from Mike Moffat’s time at Theta Digital (which he founded), but I’m gonna wait for Amir to test one before I bite.

I read about it.

I have no use for it, personally, as I can do PEQ in software via Roon.

I still have my Theta Gen V. My Data Universal is not loading disks. Hoping to find someone that can fix it (its a Phillips or Pioneer transport)

Those old Theta dacs were really good 'sounding' I remember and back then, the prices were not absurd either.

Schiit does seem to change models a bit too regularly and I'm still back in the Modi3+ and Modius period of 'only' two or so years ago ;)

I do wish them well with it :)

SINAD ~ 108 dB

THD is pretty close to the ESS9028Q2M specs.

That is SNR. Looking at the distortion chart, SINAD is distortion limited, and isn't going to be better than about 105dB

And once again they came up with a nice concept, which would be very interesting (especially for the price) if only their PR style of pseudo-ironic smugness and self-absorbedness and constant self-celebration wasn't so insufferable. Gosh, that post was utterly painful to read, and I gave up halfway through it.

Same, nopped out after the first few paragraphs. Dude probably stores his farts in jars so he can smell them regularly to get that high.
Hehehe...so true! Damn post required my full attention in order to get through it. Should have been Mike that led with the posting, probably would have been an exhilarating read, but we got the usual from ADHD rhetoric from Jason.

I agree with you, BUT, this type of marketing does work on a significant portion of the population.

I’m mostly interested in it being tested by Amir because I’m curious what he has to say about their proprietary reconstruction filter.

For whatever it's worth, goldensound has measured the filter response of the Yggdrasil, which also uses their so-called "mega combo burrito" filter.
Seems like a fine filter but I don't see anything particularly unusual here.

I just noticed the Modius is now discontinued.

I can't remember what character or show it was but this line fits pretty well here: "That's a lot of words. More than I want to take in"

That is completely transparent by quite a bit. Just saying. But it is worth noting if you are chasing SINAD as a badge.

I agree, I stop worrying at about 85dB if it is distortion. But if we are stating a figure for SINAD - it needs to be the right one. Not the one for SNR.
