Hey all,
In another thread, y'all might be convincing me to invest in a minidsp UMIK-1 measurement microphone. I'm thinking about one advantage of a USB mic: portability. Could a smartphone use the UMIK-1 and its calibration profile? If so:
Is there a recommended app for iOS/Android that's similar to Room EQ Wizard? Is there a "gold standard" app in this forum, like REW is, or is there just a mish-mash of assorted apps?
(I imagine this has been discussed plenty of times before, but my Google-fu couldn't pull up relevant results, which is why I've kinda SEO'd up this post with lots of relevant keywords, like "REW equivalent for smartphone" and "RoomEqWizard app for Android". Maybe this post can help future searchers!)
A couple of candidates I've found; I'll update this list if there are other suggestions:
- AudioTools by Andrew Smith for iOS - $20 to start, over $200 for full functionality (!). The gold standard on iOS.
- AudioTool by JulianApps ($8/8.50€) on Android - not the same as AudioTools for iOS! Unknown quality.
- Room Acoustics Meter, by Dr. Johann Gauss (free, with in-app purchases). The name is likely a reference to REW. The screenshots look pretty legit, but it has no reviews yet. It was released in October 2021.
