Today i saw my first Aurora Borealis. An hour ago from my own balcony in the middle of a metropolitan area in the middle of Germany.
Must have been even more spectacular in more northern and darker areas.
The picture is exaggerated, of course, but it was pretty clearly visible.
Thanks! I have a Sony A7CR and had just bought my new Sony 100-400 lens earlier that day. The above picture is heavily cropped (benefit of the 60MP sensor) and de-noised with Lightrooms AI denoise. The original picture withour postprocessing looks like this (it is actually a better picture but i wanted to show the spider):
I was out in the "west forty" (more like the west four, actually) field down the hill from our house. We don't have a "long view" from the house, but we do have a pretty good view towards nearby Croydon Peak. Best view on the property is from our septic field.
If anyone's interested in more info on the field, see below.
This field was mostly populated by poorly maintained red pine trees (planted in the 1960s to be used as... telephone poles) that we had to have removed when we built the house. The field isn't really very useful, but, after a decade, we've finally got it in fairly good shape as a more or less wild meadow. I was down there on this beautiful afternoon taking photos of a couple of flowering trees, and I decided to take a few other photos while I was there.
Mother's Day snow, again... Did clear off for a little late this afternoon. This shot proves I did manage to clear the drive after the tree fell, but still need to cut up the big pieces (trunk) of the downed tree, may need to wait for some help. And warmer/dryer weather!
