Parts for Salon 2s?

So my mail got forwarded to Harman luxury audio parts. After a couple of days I received a reply that the woofer was in stock. Part number N354135-001. I was quite surprised.... Apparently the part number caused the confusion. According to the importer the part number in the documentation for the salon2 is N354136-001 which they tried to order but was not in stock anymore. Long story short the woofer is still in stock and my salons should be ready in a week or so. Really looking forward to get them back. Listening for over a month now to a pair of elac dbr62 with an arendal 1723 1S sub. Not bad but the longer I listen to them the more I want the salons back. Better clarity, bigger soundstage and better bass. I really put in a lot of effort to integrate the sub with the bookshelves but it's just not the same...

Great news! Glad you'll have your Salon's back in action soon. I know the pain of waiting for parts/support, and it's not a fun experience.

Yes, that is really great news!
Moving forward I suggest you treat your speakers as though they are made of unobtanium... I wouldn't expect the same result in a few years.

How much was the woofer? I may buy some spare parts just in case. Maybe 2 woofers, 1 mid-bass, 1 midrange and 1 tweeter. And a 5 inch midrange for the voice2.

Well - if they are available. Emailing them now.

I wanted to share my experience with Revel, but since I owned the salon/2 Samsung has bought the HK conglomerate and IDK if it would apply. I will say any time I'm interested in a used speaker I research and consider the availability of replacements to my offer. I'd also like to share my 250/425 wpc int would go into thermal overload protection trying to drive my salon 2 to friday night volumes. End game? depends on your priorities.

I have found B&W to be as bad as anyone. Frequent model changes and poor parts availability for even their top of line models. My local dealer seemed shocked that I thought they should support something for more than 5 years. I'm a cranky old man, and I don't have much use for expensive throw away consumer products. A $200 DAC fine, a four or five figure pair of speakers not so much. Part of the long term support issue might be ownership changes and migration of production to the other side of the world, but at the end of the day I don't care what their story is if they don't perform.

All of which leaves us with a problem: the little audio companies regularly fail, so no support. And in the modern world, larger companies don't want to warehouse parts long term which may never sell and certainly don't want that expense to harm this quarter's earnings. All of which should temper your desire for "end game" speakers.
I have the opposite experience with Bowers & Wilkins (in Portugal/Spain/UK).

Not only they are very fast replying to my emails, as I was always able to buy spares for discontinued models.

I recently bought a tweeter for my 805N within days (even though the speakers are 20 years old)

B&W had good long term support with few exceptions. There was a hiccup though when parts delivery was outsourced to Encompass. Obviously their 8xx models have better support than others, but this is expected.

I’ve had a similar experience but not as bad with the ATI4000 that wasn’t enough to power the salons adequately. The ATI6000 is doing a much better job. Neither went into thermal protection mode but the red light did light up on occasion with the ATI4000. This is with and without subs which was a little odd.

I do think the salons should have more power but I’m not sure if it’ll sound any better or different since the ATI6000 runs in its operating range, there are no issue.

I was going to post a new thread, but i figured I'd piggyback on this one since my question is related. I purchased a brand new pair of Salon2 in February of this year. I am powering them by two Arcam PA240 in bridge mode. I was listening at a reasonably high volume, when my Panamax M5400 circuit breaker tripped. I went over the 12A limit because ALL my gear was plugged into it at the same time. Anyway, breaker tripped, music went silent. No pops, cracks, or anything else. I reset the breaker, and powered my gear back on. After that, my Salon2's sounded very muffled, like the midrange was gone. I factory reset all my gear, and the sound was still muffled and boomy. I put my ear up to each driver on the Salon2's and all drivers seemed to work except the 4" on BOTH speakers. I couldn't feel any vibration either. I was really shocked, and scared, that I may have blown the 4" in BOTH of my speakers. Seriously? I tried listening with headphones, and everything sounded perfect, so I'm pretty sure it's the speakers. I opened a warranty claim with Harman, so we'll see what happens. Any thoughts? Is it really that easy to blow TWO drivers on the Salon2's?

My buddy blew this 4” midrange too so I think the answer is yes it happens but not sure if it’s that easy. I’ve played music at obscene levels for many years with my salons and still no issues. Revels are generally reliable.

That was my impression too. Maybe even if I blew one. But both? Just not sure how. I don't know what else it could be. I would hope the driver would below before the crossover smoked.

Get onto Harman/Revel and remind them they are required by law to stock parts for what is a TOTL speaker that has only just been discontinued.

There’s no way on earth they can get away with saying there’s no parts.
What law is that?

I bet those drivers will last a lot longer than a few years. You might ask Amir about this stuff, he owns Salon 2s.

Let me tell you about my revel salon journey. About 5 years ago I acquired thru a trade, boat for speakers, original salons, the boat was old and the speakers had issues. Sent to United in N Y, what a collection of Not very helpful people. 2 drivers were bad, replacement parts not available. One crossover needed repair and was fixable, but what was the point fixing it if I could not replace the drivers. Spent about a grand on shipping back and forth. Tried for about a year to find replacement parts, gave up. Put em up for sale for someone’s project. Amazingly a guy from China bought them and said his company could fix them and they were highly sought after in China. Made a decent score and then bought a pair of used salon 2’s. Keeping my fingers crossed that nothing happens to them. I believe ther were some reliability issues concerning drivers on the salon 1. In my looking for spare drivers i came across a handful of others looking for replacement drivers with no luck. The general consensus was that revel made a great speaker but long term service of the product was sorely lacking and the repair service non existent. I think replacement parts are available for the 2’s, but if they discontinue we might be S O L. Track record for revel not stellar.
The originals had issues with the midrange (voice coils ?) and you're correct, not really an issue anymore with V2. IIRC @RichB had midrange issues he maybe able to comment in more detail

What law is that?

We have consumer guarantees in all our states where an importer/distributor must maintain spare parts and repair facilities for a reasonable time after purchase unless the consumer was advised otherwise, prior to their purchase.

Where an expectation of quality, superiority and longevity would be implied by the high purchase price and/or the positioning of the product (this speaker is an expensive TOTL product), that "reasonable time" expectation would be extended. There is no time limit here in Australia. The interpetation of "reasonable" is the crux of it.

You would have similar laws over there, I'm sure. It would involve "reminding" companies being overtly difficult as to their obligations to consumers seeking remedies.

A simple letter of demand, giving the company a reasonable period to rectify the situation and obtain the spare parts you require, or arrange for a total refund of the purchase price, has always resulted in positive outcomes in my experience. Often parts were shipped gratis, even though it was made clear we were happy to pay a reasonable sum for said parts.

I was more curious what jurisdiction you meant. As far as I know there is no meaningful backup to such requirements here in USA even if some have been formulated, to be enforceable. I think mostly you're on your own for expectation of spares. One of my own practices across a variety of gear is if I intend to use it a long time I might just buy significant spares up front to keep in reserve....
