[New] Focal Diva Utopia

FFS I didn't write they are not very useful just co-axial is not crucial at longer distances.

One could argue that the Geithans are the only good speaker because they are available cardioid over a wider frequency range than all but a tiny number of others. In the far field that probably makes more difference than co-axial.

This is all a bit stupid though.
Geithans are the only good speaker because they have full range cardioid? Nope. There are others ;) … but they are rare, that is a fact

Ok, what's with the dated hifi/monitor comparison nonsense then?
He actually made a couple of points :
But these are hifi speakers, not mixing monitors for on desk use (or to distract home workers from their work...).
Which is absolutely right in that case : virtually none would buy the Diva Utopia for nearfield applications, neither in domestic use, nor for "work" purposes.
Nobody I know listens to HiFi in the near field.
Well, there's not much to say : I don't know who he knows. :p

AFAIC, I do know quite a few people that use monitorings for nearfield Hi-Fi listening. As long as a speaker is neutral for "pros", I see no reason to not listen to it the same way for entertainment. But you would agree that most customers won't do that. Anyway, that's off-topic since this is not what these Focal speakers are : they are not designed for nearfield, nor for work...

Nope. Certainly not from this guy/channel.

You have the obvious disadvantage. When I watched a few minutes of that video I thought how much better YouTube audio reviews sound when I can't understand the words.

Do you see what I see: plastic body decorated with pressed (artificial) wool panels? Where did these $35000 go? Also remember that with all their digital technology they will become unrepairable in less than 10 (if lucky) or even 5 years. Their values will be close to zero after that - just look at 10 years old flagship AVRs! Divide $35000 by 10 year - you will spend $3500/ year, each year to enjoy them.

Comparison to AVR is pushing it. We have significant changes in video production/reproduction and therefore AVR feature sets over time. Much less so in stereo audio reproduction. You would more properly compare to other active speakers.

You may dislike polymer or felt as materials, but with a mass of 64 kg per speaker, they don’t appear to be cutting corners.

They literally are. :p

There's nothing square in that speaker, everything is rounded.

Haha, true … no corners (to) cut then. ;)

I don't know
I'm actually giving credit to Focal for doing an active hi end hifi speaker
Usually audiophiles only buy separates and passives , so it's a brave move from their side.
