Neumann KH120 II

The KH120ii sound better as KH120. They use a better lowmid driver, mids are more clear. They have a better soundstage and can deliver more lowend.
Not sure how much is left after a calibration with KH750 ... for sure the cleaner midrange. Is it enough to swap and pay the price ... no one tested up to now as far as I know.

Happy KH120ii owner after 6 months of use for both music listening and mixing/mastering of vocal dialogue with music in my studio - they definitely go deep enough for my needs!
You don't miss the bass on EDM?

I am actually very surprised how little the KH750 is used in music after MA1 calibration.(listening to aphex twin, daft punk) Especially at low volume. Default crossover is super high, I could hear male voices (frequencies) when kh120II failed to wake up. What sub does actually is makes the mids of 120II more clean, unloading the 120II's drivers.

This is normal.

Has anyone had power issues (not being able to power on) with the KH 120 II speakers? I'm currently in process of doing my third RMA with them for my pair. It's weird considering I'm just connecting them to my power source with the supplied power cord. I don't switch them off manually as I usually let them go to standby mode on their own.

It’s hard to have 3 such cases since it’s released not long ago, did you check if your plug have some kind of power surge? Maybe some surge protection strip would help?

I have zero issues with any of the six pairs of Neumann monitors in my studio, including 120 II's and 2 pairs of 150's (which have the same amplifiers and power supplies. Given your 3 RMA's it is clear that problem lies in your power system. Don't blame Neumann.......

I was asking if anyone had similar issues. Not sure which part of my post had me blaming Neumann?

Are they not powering at all in general, or just not coming back from stand by?

The KH80 have a known iffy standby, which Neumann claims is due to a lack of ground prong/leg on the power input. I wonder if some of that kind of made it's way over to the 120 II?

I've always turned off stand by off on my speakers, don't see the point of it and it always gets in the way.

Not powering up at all. I'll ask Neumann on the cause of the failure; I would assume that they would be able to tell that if the power supply failed to it being fried (from a power surge or otherwise).

If your power did kill them, I'd assume it would take some other stuff with it? I'm surprised nuemann didn't reach out after the second one. Then again, their support was bad ime.

I had the not being able to power on issue with my KH 150:

My 120IIs have wake-up issues occasionally. Sometimes with left 120II sometimes with right 120II. I upgraded to the latest firmware but the problem is still there.

That is true. My PC is running from the same outlet and hasn't had any issues (yet).

Just went through the same exact experience as you did. Unplugged the speaker and left it on the table over the weekend as I was planning on bringing it into the service center this week.

Called Sennheiser up and they told me to try updating the speaker firmware (even when I told them there seems to be no power). The speaker actually powered on as per normal and went into standby mode.

Customer support says it seems to be a known issue on their end and has asked me to monitor if the issue still persists. Fingers crossed going from 1.1.10 to the latest 1.1.11 firmware will solve these power/standby issues. I hope yours has been working fine after the firmware update?
