This type of bass loading has the benefit of halving enclosure volume at the cost of halving sensitivity.
Nothing magic but a perfectly valid engineering choice.
I'm sorry, but this is wrong. Sensitivity of an isobaric system is the same as that of a single driver. The efficiency does go down 3dB, but the sensitivity remains the same.

If I have it right, the biggest benefit of an isobaric system is reduced enclosure size.

The effective parameters may also change somewhat, ime resulting in deeper bass extension than a "halving of required enclosure volume" predicts. I do not have an adequate explanation but saw it in some measurements that I made almost forty years ago, directly comparing a sealed box with its half-the-net-internal-volume isobaric counterpart. The observed difference was more than could be accounted for by the added moving mass of the air between the two woofers, so I think there may be something else going on.

What are your isobarics, if you don't mind saying?

Isobaric systems have been around for decades and surely come with pros and cons. Yet, I have the hunch that this choice was made as much for aesthetic reasons as for acoustic ones. The creator was obviously going for something that looked different.
I am amazed by this interpretation.
You “have a hunch” and “creator going for something looking different” based on what ffs
Several Wilson Benesch speakers use isobaric bass loading.
