Hi,

I bought a minidsp shd and it just arrived today. I installed all the apps and drivers. The SHD app connects to the minidsp over USB, and I can connect it to the network, but other than that literally nothing works.

1. The routing matrix has nothing on it.
2. Clicking on Config2 hangs the software.
3. Trying to restore to factory settings hangs the software
4. Dirac does not detect the device on the network.

Has anybody recently bought a minidsp shd and managed to set it up properly ?

I am extremely disapointed with the low quality of software on this device.

edit: after working with minidsp support Ive got it fixed but I think they need to do a better job with the software

Contact the company they will probably email you instructions and a file you'll need to reflash the SD card in it is my guess. I had to do that to a SHD Studio that bricked while trying to install plugins. At least that's probably where they will start unless they have had an issue with them.

I recently added a SHD. There was a bit of a learning curve but everything eventually worked. Not sure what you mean about the routing matrix, but it has to have assignments. For example select Dirac 1 for Output1, Dirac 2 for Output2, and both for Output3 for a 2.1 system, assuming you are using those 3 outputs for your speakers. Also did you try updating to more recent firmware?

Well the problem I am facing is I cannot assign any input to any output. everything is empty and unchangeable.

That is definitely not normal. How about the firmware upgrade? The newest version is 1.13. If you can connect via USB you should be able to do that, which might fix your problems.

Another thought. Are you sure your are connected, as in you clicked the "connect" icon in the SHD app?

Yeah, I am connected. I downloaded the latest SHD version from minidsp and flashed it via USB to try and get it working. firmware version is shown as 1.19 after i connect. (software version seems to be 1.13d2)

Have you searched Minidsp forum to see if others have this issue? Try uninstalling the plugins on the computer download again and reinstall perhaps a file was corrupted in the download process.

For Dirac version 3.0.8 didn't work with the SHD. They fixed it in 3.0.9 released just in the last few days.

That output routing looks strange. I've never see that. I would the firmware upgrade again.

Make sure you're running the most recent firmware and when you "connect" the first thing you did was "restore config"?
hmm..i don't remember - but does this cause a permanent bricking of the device? i did flash the firmware again, and then use 'restore' during the first connect, but the behavior hasn't changed.

anyway, i had contacted minidsp tech support and they have sent me a long list of things to check. will go through that.

minidsp support asked me to check some registry settings, and changing those has fixed everything! managed to get it to run as a DAC, run dirac etc.

just in case anyone has a problem in the future with this - the problem is that I have Windows10, and microsoft, ye old monopolist, decides that you need to have OneDrive whether you want it or not. As a result, the 'My Documents' folder in the registry points to some OneDrive location, which the SHD software doesn't like. Changing it to a non OneDrive location fixed everything.

I guess that means you're using a Microsoft logon (with e-mail adress), rather than a traditional local user account (still available but a bit hidden)?

Not necessarily. I have a Microsoft log on so I can move my Windows 10 license to different builds but have noting to do with One Drive. You get tricked into using One Drive when installing Windows 10 if you aren't careful.

This may be a very stupid question but, is everything connected to the unit, power amp and subwoofer(s)? Are there licensing issues also?

Yeah. Unfortunately my dell laptop had preinstalled windows and I dont know how onedrive slipped in. Definitely didn’t install it myself since i use dropbox. And Microsoft seems to have made sure that one drive hooks its tentacles deep into the system. I am unable to point My Documents away from the onedrive location.

Unfricking believable!

I had hardware issues on my SHD studio that were fixed under warranty. The software has worked well. I'd follow what the minidsp techs ask you to do. If it doesn't work, they'll pay for shipping round trip to repair.
