Hi All,

I'd like to accurately configure my speakers in my listening space using lasers. Does anybody have specific recommended laser devices to buy? Laser pointer, laser distance measuring device, laser leveling device, etc? So many options to do this. Not sure what optimal gear is.

Klein for affordability.
Bosch for extra in the event you do any landscaping/building over 100’.

Just my opinion, of course.

As far as your choice in lasers many major power tool manufacturers have added to their line self-leveling pendulum, distance, and pointer lasers nowadays which by the way are extremely accurate. However, if you’re searching for a reputable Company that specializes only in Levels and Lasers my humble recommendation would be Stabila. Specifically model LAX300G and LD220.

Another choice, PLS (Pacific Laser Systems.) I've been using discontinued model PLS2 for many years, and a good old trusty tape measurer.

You need a laser distance measuring device. They differ in maximum distance, precision and features. For home audio the cheapest are sufficient.

This is the most useful "audio" accessory I own:

Lots of good suggestions already...but keep in mind that unless you are planning to put your head in a vice, sub centimeter accuracy is not that useful for speaker positioning.

I've found the Bosch to be excellent, reliable and accurate. But I principally used to rebuild my house!

Depends if you use it out of audio.
I bit the knife and got a Geo Fennel, mostly due to it's IP65,fall protection, etc (same thing I did with my DMMs)

But that's the barbarian me,for home audio only measurements go with a decent very cheap one,it makes no difference.

A tape measure and someone at the other end may be easier.

Now i know why i only experienced good sound but never perfect?! I need the precision of laser distance measuring!! Imagine your left speaker is a 1/10 inch more fare away then your right? That cant be perfect right?? Thats genious.

Hi

I believe that the OP is serious. I was a founding member of a heavily subjective audio site, then, I believed strongly that the speakers must be set up with a laser and, yes, with a bubble level... .. I also believed in line conditionner and cable ...:facepalm::facepalm:
to the @cEbNVDyfMy : While a few cms (inches) can make an audible difference in some cases, any ruler is good enough. You don't need mm precision...

Peace.

Another person might be helpful, depending on what you´re doing. But I remember remodeling my living room with positioning surround and Atmos speakers etc. using a (very basic) Bosch distance laser. A tape measure would have been awful in comparison. More accurate to just point your laser around and much more convenient and faster, too.

My Bosch GLM 15 may be accurate, but it isn't terribly precise: it only measures in increments as small as 1 centimeter. But that's adequate for my purposes.

May I kindly remind you this is Audio Science Review. ;)
To me the point is not in the last millimeter but when the speakers are not placed well and you are sitting a bit off center the distance error between L and R might add up to 5% or more. It‘s not difficult or expensive (front wall distances as well) so I wouldnˋt want to leave that on the table. :)

I use a carpenters ruler for distance and the KRK audio app for toe in.
Thanks, will try it!

Sry but there are so many ways to measure a distance. Espeacially if you youst need to compare. You think its science to use a laser where a peace of string would be enough?
Hehe its no wonder that some people think the pyramides could only be build with alien technology. ;)
