Guys I need your advice.

In early June I bought a complete amplifier from Audiophonics with two of the 1ET9040BA Purifi amplifier modules for approximately 3000 €.

One week ago I then read the thread about the Buckeye Purifi Eigentakt 1ET9040BA monoblock and contacted Audiophonics and Purifi. Both Audiophonics and Purifi now wants me to open the casing and check the serial numbers of the amplifier modules. The Audiophonics amplifier does not have a serial number or CE mark on the exterior of the casing.

I am afraid that this is a little out of my comfort zone hence the purchase of a complete amplifier and not a DIY kit. When selling and buying used audio equipment scratches and marks are always an issue and I will leave a mark on the case if I open it. (Shipping the amplifier to France and back is really not an serious option)

Now I am 55 and half years old and my hearing on my left ears stops working at approximately 13 – 14 kHz and the right ear is not much better. The new speakers(Elipson Prestige Facet 34F) together with the amplifier is the subjectively the best sounding pairing I have had, especially at high frequency's.

I have suspected from the beginning that the Audiophonics amplifier was an early experimental example, the lacking of a CE mark, no user manual(both legal requirements in the EU I believe) and the fact that the trigger connectors are not working was signs that was easy to ignore for me but the Purifi module issue is a little bit different.

I am disappointed and currently a bit indecisive on what to do.

So my question:
Should I ignore these possible measuring problems and keep the amplifier or should I return the amplifier to Audiophonics?

Can you take it to a local tech to open and check the serial numbers? I thought that Purifi had accounted for all the defective modules? Doesn't Audiophonics keep a record of what modules went where? I would ask them to tell you the numbers so you can contact Purifi directly and ask them. If they won't give you the numbers I would personally send it back.

According to both Purifi and Audiophonics they need me to open the cover and check.
I do have friends that can help me, that was a good idea, thanks :)

The fact that the triggers don't work anyway means you should send it back.... or just the faulty cards if they are easy to remove from the device which you can of course open using a screwdriver with a suitable tip in size without making the slightest mark on the case.

My advice is , return it and get a Yamaha A-S2200. You get one for 3000 euro without even asking for a discount.

Purifi has stated that all the faulty modules has been returned.
I don't see any reason to doubt them and their response was probably to make you feel ok with it after you check.

CE mark and trigger on the other hand is a VERY different matter,I would return it just for it alone.

Edit:the advertising material shows the CE mark though:

Not that is of any great significance as its a self-certification,is not like it is an ENEC mark but is the law in EU.
Manual should also include all certs.

Recently took possession of an Audiophonics amplifier and it does have the CE silkscreen on the rear. Also the manual for all of their products is online.

Personally, I would get my money back if possible. I can't think of a reason to pay 3000 on an amp when so many other options will work just as well for less than half that price. You won't hear any difference at all with a Boxem A4216/E2 at 1210.

You are probably correct but I was not aware of this amplifier

I will be sure to check but do not believe mine is marked

The user manual is on the 7040 page only. I can not find a user manual for the 9040 on the Audiophonics page. Can you find one?
The description of the outside of the amplifier described in HPA-S500ET user manual does not match the amplifier I got HPA-DM750ET.

Regarding CE mark

I was in contact with Audiophonics asking them about the Topping B200 Monoblock if it has CE mark (because I could not spot it on the pictures).

Response was that it has CE mark, because otherwise..."Without that we would not be able to offer you the product within the European community." They even updated the pictures to show that it is there. Looks like it is just a sticker which also can easily fall of.

But agree with other comments here - would return if missing.
