The Pixies X Safari Riot - Where Is My Mind (DFFRNT Bootleg)

Did anyone play Xenon on some good old computer? It was the first game from The Bitmap Brothers.

Here's a chiptune from the game, from the Atari ST. Sounds lovely to me, but probably sounds like sh!t if you didn't play the game at the time... :)

The music is made by David Whittaker.

Serious square waves
Talking about square waves, the sound chip of the Atari ST is / was all about square waves. This chip, the YM2149F, has three audio channels with one square wave oscillator each, and that's about it. There is a (single) noise generator that can be applied to any of these channels, and an envelope generator with which you can control the volume envelope. There is only one single envelope generator though for all three channels, but you can push the frequency of it up into the audible range, making some creative use of the envelope generator.

Here you can see the three oscillators of the YM2149F at work, in a chiptune from 2017. Yes, people are still doing new stuff on these 40 year old machines!

!Cube - Elusive Groove

Sorry for spamming about the Atari ST, but I'm currently having a bit of a nostalgic period checking in on some of that good old stuff.

We should start a separate thread for early PC music. !Cube (Toni Lonnberg) and Lukhash are really awesome when it comes to squeezing out new content from old C64 and ST gear.

There are quite a few musicians remaking old chiptunes and C64/Amiga game music.

I can't help but mention this cult-classic take on Green Beret by Reyn Ouwehand, who is still actively composing and doing live on-line concerts...

Also this nice tribute to Johannes Bjerregaard, a member of Maniacs of Noise, along with Reyn.

Here is the original by Johannes Bjerregaard on C64:

Now, fire away!

Still remember being impressed by the Amiga demo ...
