Reading about it more it "should be" analogue pass through as long as the L/R speakers are set to large and/or direct mode. Having speakers set to large and LFE+main would copy the bass to the subs, but then you are relying on having a 24 dB acoustic slope of the mains to integrate with the sub (otherwise "double bass"). To activate the 12 db/octave filter on the mains (i.e small speaker setting) to fit a 12 dB acoustical slope means you need to go through the ADC/DAC/DSP. The same should be the case if you activate Audyssey or any other processing mode when L/R is set to large.

I think the descriptions from Marantz/Denon are quite poor regarding the above.
