Hey Folks. I just bought a DMP-A6 ME and am still within the return window. I think it sounds very good but I'm wondering if I should have kept my Wiim Pro+ as a transport and run it into a Denafrips Enyo 15th. The screen on the Eversolo is nice, but I want whatever is going to sound best. I feel like the functionality is equally good between the two (DMP-A6 and Wiim) when streaming Qobuz, so that's not an issue.

Has anyone had experience with these two set-ups and been able to make comparisons? Any other thoughts? Thanks

Probably not the best forum to ask for any subjective differences between DACs and streamers. This community uses objective data/measurements to determine quality of a product.

The belief here is that paying extra to have an R2R DAC like Enyo over the built-in delta-sigma DAC in the DMP-A6 will not yield any audible differences as long as neither are broken/poorly designed. Amir has measured the Denafrips Ares II years ago, which is a predecessor to the Enyo 15th, and it was fine. But the Eversolo DAC measures near state of the art and is more feature rich so it is more highly recommended.

I take your point on the objective nature of this forum Ninjastar. I can see that the tonality of a particular device would be measurable as non-linearity in the output signal compared to the input. Is there some measurement that would correlate to the perceived soundstage characteristics of a device, say a DAC?

Soundstage doesn’t exist just an audiophile term, imaging however does exist and depends upon speaker matching, symmetry of placement etc.

Thanks PA. So, if a system is assembled and set-up correctly to maximize imaging (are there objective measurements for imaging?) using an excellent DAC, then that DAC is swapped out for another excellent DAC changing nothing else, would the imaging change or would you expect it to stay the same? If it does change, what measurable characteristic of the second DAC compared to the first would have caused the change? Thanks, just trying to understand.

I would expect it to stay the same, I'd also expect it to stay the same using your existing Pro+.

Imaging is going to be largely determined by your loudspeakers, your room's acoustics and your speakers positioning within that room, and the recording itself.

I think soundstage is basically an umbrella term that encompasses both Apparent Source Width (ASW) and Listener Envelopment (LEV). So it exists.

Exactly the same as there is no mechanism that could impart that information from the output of the dac, voltage/phase/amplitude.
