DMP-A6 / Master Edition Gen 2 Owner's Thread

before buying an unit I want to make sure that digital volume control is working for me as expected.
and also make sure that it´s working for digital inputs as well (not only internal player).
For that reason I am asking the owners here. So if someone here can confirm that both is working?

Probably faster/easier to get an answer here: https://forum.zidoo.tv/index.php?forums/eversolo.55/

Purchased one as a BD gift for ... myself, couple days ago. A6 ME Gen2 black. Still unpacked though.:)

I just purchased Gen 2 EU version but am located in US. Does the power supply require me to switch between 220 & 110V or does it auto switch?

Question for the group. I own both, GEN 1 and GEN 2. I have not opened the GEN 2 yet. I purchased the GEN 2 for HDMI ARC. I use the eversolo for streaming only and volume is set to FIXED.

Do I need to change volume control from FIXED to VARIABLE when using HDMI ARC?

Setup for GEN 2 will be TV => eversolo HDMI ARC => DAC => Rogue RP-7 HT bypass. Want the volume to be controlled via TV.

Hoping I do not have to change volume from fixed to variable to watch TV. My guess is yes I will have too. If so, I'll be selling the GEN 2. Should have asked this question before buying the GEN 2.

Thank you in advance.....

I now have the Eversolo DMP-A6 ME2 as the front end to my iFi iDSD Signature Pro/iCan and it's a fantastic bit of kit!
USB to ifi and balanced from iFi Pro to iFi iCan. Overkill... yep!

I just got my RMA'ed A6 Master Edition Gen 2 back after the dreaded power supply replacement proble. On first handling, I notice the following:
  • When I tilt or rotate the unit (to access the NVMe slot), I can feel something slide inside and hear a distinct “thunk/click” near the power-inlet/PSU area.
  • For safety, I’ve not powered it on.
Questions for owners who had PSU replacement RMA:
  • Does your unit make any noise when tilted or rotated after repair?
  • If you experienced this, did you find out what the root cause was? (e.g., loose screw/standoff? cable harness not secured?)
  • Did your repair center/distributor resolve it by RMA the second time, or did they swap the unit?

Update: the distributor is arranging an exchange as the loose slide piece inside is not normal.

Hi. In all the info and ads I have looked at they don't seem to cover some basic info
One, do I need an ehternet cable to connect my hi fi or does it recogonize my wireless.
Secondly, does is stream Ap[ple Music, I noticed a reference to that nut someone said it streams it in lower resolution.
Thirdly, Is it relatoibel simple to use?
fourthly (fourthly?) had anytne attached the ssd card to the unit and use it to store discs and what kind of cd writer did you use for that?
Thanks
Dennis

It can connect to wifi, but ethernet is more stable and may give you a better connection. The interface is like an Android device and it has settings for wifi, screen, etc.

Yes it does Apple Music. See my post here for my findings when I tried Apple Music and Amazon Music. Both have built-in native apps, and a separate downloadable app on the device. How they display on the screen may be different (yes/no compatible with the VU meter and graphic display, etc), and how/if they access hi-res/lossless or Atmos files.

Some streaming apps you can control from your app on your phone. Others you use the Eversolo app on your phone to connect to the DMP-A6 and control like a separate screen of the device (even has a screen mirror function). Or you can use the touchscreen on the A6 itself to navigate and control.

Very simple to use, once you get the hang of it and which streaming apps you want to use, configurations all set.

I haven't done CD ripping to the device. You can see the walk-through here for more info ( https://www.eversolo.com/Support/support_guide/guide_target/c5swz2csgP3eq7k9e[ld]3ulg==.html )

On Apple Music: There are 2 ways to use Apple Music with this device (I have an A8 and an A6 first generation, they both work the same in this regard):
1. Use the native Apple Music Android App on the device - with this, you control on the screen, or via your phone using ever solo app with the "screen" app, which is basically like controlling screen sharing software. Your phone/iPad/etc is just controlling the screen the Eversolo. This allows full Apple Music high resolution lossless playback (you'll stream the highest resolution available for the music and the device will show you the bitrates), and it works well. You login on the Eversolo app with your Apple Music credentials. This app you are using is built by Apple and distributed to Android devices (which the Eversolo is under covers)

2. Use the Apple Music interface on the Eversolo. The difference here is this is using an API to connect to Apple Music directly, and the streaming is limited to lossless CD quality (ie 16/44.1). It won't stream high resolution Apple Music. however, the app and interface are generally nicer to use and easier to control

I find for casual listening I'll use the native app interface (item 2) as I am fully apple ecosystem and the control, interface etc on the phone is really good. Eversolo has done an excellent job with their client software, it's gotten very very good over the last year. If I want to stream in high resolution I'll use the Android app on the device (item1).

Easy of use: It is easy to use for most functionality. I think for most users the hardest thing to do would be moving a music collection to an SSD to play back internally and setup the device to read the source. its not hard, but, it might be a bit technical for some users. I have a very large music collection so I found it easier to copy my library on an external SSD drive enclosure and then install it into the ever solo vs. using a network share to copy the files which was quite slow (for 3TB+ of music). However once on the SSD installed on the device the use and playing of music and the interface is excellent and easy to use. There are a few steps: install SSD, get music to the SSD, point the playback app to the location of the music on the SSD, scan the library). Then you just playback.

On an external CD player, I have a quite old external Samsung USB CD reader/writer. I used this many years ago to rip my CD collection. I plugged it into the ever solo and it recognized it, I could play cds from it, and I could rip cds to the internal drive or SSD inside the unit (note that the A6/A8 has one SSD slot, but you have to supply the drive).

So I think most USB compatible CD drives will work fine for this purpose of ripping CDs to be stored on the unit.
