I just bought one of these. While I never tried the original and can't say how the latest version compares to it, I was very impressed with what I heard.

It's my first dedicated streamer. (I had been using my old iPad mini 2, connected to a Loxjie D40 by USB and an Emotiva preamp up to this point on my stereo system and an Android TV with a Roku Ultra and a Sony 4k DVD player and a Loxjie D60, going into active Genelec speakers and a subwoofer on my video system.)

Though I found the DMP-A6 Gen 2's UI a bit quirky and unnecessarily complicated, the way it handles streaming from Amazon Music Unlimited was beyond my expectations. The fidelity is the best I have heard thus far and it supports gapless playback (which is infuriatingly absent from the Amazon Music apps on my Roku Ultra and Android TV).

The packaging was a bit over-the-top, but I appreciated the inclusion of a double CD collection with two classical recordings (Vivaldi's and Piazzolla's pieces, both titled "The Four Seasons"). First, because I still collect, play, and appreciate physical media (especially when it is as well recorded as this one) and secondly, because it makes a bold promise about the quality of the hardware and what to expect. It screams "This device is going to be good enough to do justice to classical recordings" and the DMP-A6 did not disappoint. It handles the ESS Sabre chip better than any DAC that I have heard so far, with restraint and good taste. IMHO, these chips tend to be a little intense on the top end, but the DMP-A6 does a very good job of taming them. It can deliver remarkably high and incisive transients, but never overdoes it. You hear them briefly, where you expect them, like on the high pizzicatto notes of a solo violin or the fret noise on a guitar, not just shoved in everywhere. Moreover, they are beautifully balanced by suprisingly resonant, rounded and deep bass notes that, like the treble, are never overdone. (To my ears, it obviates the need for a subwoofer on this system, which I had intended to purchase.)

As for the mid-range, well, that's the real star of the show. The mids are very detailed and varried. The other DACs I have used seemed to be trying to add depth to the sound by dialing down the volume on some instruments (or range of frequencies) but not others. This doesn't work for me. It just makes me feel like I want to raise the volume on them because they are way too soft and make many of my recordings sound unbalanced. (Especially if I own and am very familiar with the original anlog versions.) I never get that feeling with the DMP-A6 Gen 2. (And, if I ever do, it has an EQ section to explore.)

My overall impression is that, while no device is perfect (at least in my price range) this one seems to have been designed and built with good taste by people who really know and care about music.

Yes it is a decent audibly transparent bit of kit, ( as are many others).

Agreed. I just didn't appreciate how much the sound would improve by changing the streamer as well. Amazon Unlimited always seemed pretty unstable when streaming from my old iPad mini 2, even with the latest update.

Can anyone definitively tell me that they have personal experience playing Apple Music from the A6? The product literature seems pretty coy about it, for example, there’s always an asterisk next to “Apple Music” and in one spot it actually says the asterisk “A wired connection is necessary”. So what exactly is the compatibility here?

I have the DMP-A6 and I chose it for the Apple Music solution. Initially, it was quite slow and a search was not fun to type but they have worked wonders and it works really well now.

I have a wired connection to my A6. Its a great solution and as far as I know, this is the only device to have lossless as a media streamer from Apple Music. My library of songs, playslists, etc. all show up.

Hello.
Can you please tell me if I can connect an active subwoofer to the preout output of the new Eversolo DMP A6G2?

Il rivenditore mi dice di no, ma online sembra possibile, non capisco.
Can I also connect a vinyl record turntable?

I think the turntable needs to be amplified right?
Thank you very much.

The dealer tells me no, but online it seems possible, I don't understand.
Thank you very much.
It doesn't have a dedicated subwoofer output, but you can use one of the RCA line outs or one of the XLR line outs to connect a subwoofer. The issue with this setup is that you're receiving only one channel which may not be optimal depending on how the music was produced. A dedicated subwoofer out would either carry a distinct LFE signal or sum the outputs from the both channels.

@thecity2
Ok thanks.

So the dual RCA output is not variable?

Why can I take just one XLR or RCA? I can't take both L/R?

Absurd question if I split with a Y connector those that go to the input of the power amplifier?
Thank you very much.

I think the RCA can be either fixed or variable in the settings. And if your subwoofer takes L and R preamp outputs then yes use both.

Some question about the Eversolo DMP A6 Gen 2:

I use BluOS Streaming Devices for a long time and all of the BluOS Devices I had in the past, had the ability to switch the Audio Output to a Mono Signal.
That is very helpful for testing if the speakers are aligned and positioned correctly as with the mono signal the sound must come from a point in the middle between the loudspeakers.

I am able to set the mono output in the BluOS Controller App:

Can somebody with a Eversolo DMP A6 Gen 2 have a look if there is a similar option to change the output signal to a Mono Signal like it is possible with the BluOS Devices?
That would really help me to decide if a Eversolo Device is a possible replacement for BluOS Devices.

Kind regards!

I had to return both my A6 Gen 2s for ongoing hardware problems. First there was the widely-known power issue which caused both of mine to brick. Once repaired, they simply failed again. The seller replaced them with new units, which sometimes couldn't be started. More frequently, they would suddenly stop outputting a signal to the XLR ports. (This occurred approximately every three to four weeks on both machines. The originals never had this problem.) As we approached the end of my one-year warrantee period on the first unit, I had to return it. I decided to return the second unit as well, since the seller and the company didn't seem to know or care what was going on and I didn't see any point in just waiting for it to happen and chalking up a nearly $2,000 loss. Now the only thing I am out is what I spent for the remote.

At this time, I am looking for replacements that can run Amazon Music with gapless playback. My old iPad mini 2 can do this, but then it just stops in the middle of other songs and crashes the Apple Amazon Music app. This also happens when I use the Roku Amazon Music app (and, when it works, it isn't gapless). So far, the only streamer I have found that actually works as expected is the Amazon Music app on my old Sony Google TV. The sound quality is better than the Roku app, but not as resolving as the old iPad and the Eversolo A6 Gen 2. (Though gapless playback on the Eversolo was intermittent.)

I've read that the Wiim Ultra is supposedly the best gapless playback streamer for Amazon Music. It sounds quite a bit better than I expected. Closer to the A6 than I ever would have imagined. Unfortunately, it doesn't have balanced outputs and it would require me to use a smart phone (which I no longer have or need in my old age) or my iPad mini (which takes forever to startup and is quirky in the extreme). If the former point wasn't a deal breaker for me, the latter certainly is. The main selling point of the Eversolo devices was that touchscreen. Bad as it was, it was better than the alternatives, and the remote that I got from Amazon helped quite a bit.

So, I am wondering if anyone knows of a streamer that is (a) currently available, (b) supports Amazon Music with gapless playback, and (c) is anywhere near the price point of an A6 Gen 2 (i.e. approximately 1,000 US dollars). Thanks.
