I don't understand why so many people ask about portables with E3s.
E3s are closed-backs, I get that, but they are also big, heavy at 455 grams, and around 2000 euros. Not exactly a portable headphone for walking around.
Best to leave them at home, and have some wireless lifestyle headphones for the daily commute - who needs an E3 on a bus?
Because I have an iBasso dx260 DAP as my portable music device so I have a lot of headroom for more than just some IEMs. I don't wear over the ears HPs on a bus or whatever but there are plenty of times where I can sit and relax while I'm out and not just sitting at home. So I'm totally good with a moderately sized HP like the Stealth or E3 for on the go listening. So why compromise when I have no need to?

I've tried IEMs, and the compromise of having to push that back into my ears every 30 seconds or so severely affects their usability and sound quality.

I have this problem as well. Tips and IEM shape can help dramatically. In my case, I only use bullet-style IEMs and I prefer Sedna Max. Spintfit cp240 also work well for me, but not quite as comfortable. For me the "normal" style of IEM does exactly what you describe, needs to be pushed in constantly, especially if I'm sweaty.
The Tanchjim One is a great way to try it out, if interested. I got mine for $17 USD shipped. remarkable the quality that can be had for so little money.

Looking at the juice deliverance the iBasso puts out 2 • 1015 watt in 32 ohm, which is pretty hefty for a dap. I gather you should be fine.
I think most folks will dig the stock sound of either the Stealth or E3 and probably won’t feel the need to EQ.
I would advise against going fully portable though, but that’s only because I feel the headphone and it’s pads will get sweaty fairly quickly whilst walking about.

Oh I agree these wouldn’t be the headphones for walking around town but I’m thinking more of the many times where day to day I am sitting around out of the house either doing work somewhere or hanging around waiting.
Closed back means there are more reflections which can contribute to distortion. But distortion at that level in that frequency region is not very noticable. I doubt most people would be able to hear it including me.
Good question, the same applies to the LCD-2 which is even cheaper than the X. I suppose the Stealth is for folks who don't have DSP. I use my headphones in multiple audio systems, some of which have DSP and others don't.
Not every device has access to EQ.
LCD-X is not built to be comfortable to wear.
LCD-X can't fold away.
Your personal needs and requirements are not the center of the world.
Also you can now grab a Noire X for close to the LCD-X price and mostly retain the qualities of the Stealth ( some would say slightly better tuning? I EQ all headphones anyways but out of box prefer the noire x).
