I think I would prefer the presentation with somewhat of a seal breach. The stock tuning looks too boomy to me. Probably sounds good if I’m wearing my thin armes glasses. Similar to how the K371 works for me.
Yeah from the graphs it actually looks better with a breach lol. Maybe now people will argue that Hifiman closed backs are deliberately designed to be listened to in subpar conditions :p Jokes aside, this particular set might have been tuned by ear by someone who wore glasses while doing so for all we know

*I did not appreciate the K371's sound with my glasses on though

It is a well known fact that closed back hifiman = garbage. Now we have more data to support that

I quite like the Sundara Closed Back with a bit of V-shaped EQ; but then they're, what, less than 2% of the cost HE-10RP

More evidence that Hifiman cant make a closerd back.... idk why they keep trying if they know their whole market is open backs, imo just focus on improving the company's build quality

I really have trouble understanding Hifiman's product line. Total gamble on transducer performance, and they can't seem to settle on a decent suspension design even with their constant revisions.
Their design methodology seems to be "throw sh*t at wall, see what sticks". It's terrible.

Wow.

I sometimes think that the greatest service (and there are many) this site provides isn't necesarily to find the "best" gear... it's *avoiding* this kind of utterly overpriced disaster. I am reminded of that article in "the absolute sound" (https://www.theabsolutesound.com/articles/the-law-of-accelerating-returns/) that made me retch a little and finally made me cancel my subscription. "The more you spend, the better the sound"... how stupid do they think we are? We've always known there is a lot of utterly overpriced garbage out there, but these days there is *zero* excuse to try to inflict it on the "masses". Go learn your d*mn craft, *then* build and sell something.

Note I am in no way saying all exotically priced gear is incompenently made, that's not the case at all. But good g*d, when you sell a premium product, at least try to get the basics right.
What a disgusting article.

I know the Harman curve isn’t end all, be all, but I’m very curious as to what the company was aiming for here. What was the design process, how did they actually tune it? By ears of an engineer? By measuring frequency response? A and B blind testing ? …. What finally landed them on this tuning

Honestly just curious , no even calling this product bad
I guarantee it's all kinds of unscientific nonsense.

What a total disaster lmfao
I guess for $5500 you definitely are getting a "unique experience" even if it isn't a good one.
