I think I would prefer the presentation with somewhat of a seal breach. The stock tuning looks too boomy to me. Probably sounds good if I’m wearing my thin armes glasses. Similar to how the K371 works for me.
Yeah from the graphs it actually looks better with a breach lol. Maybe now people will argue that Hifiman closed backs are deliberately designed to be listened to in subpar conditions :p Jokes aside, this particular set might have been tuned by ear by someone who wore glasses while doing so for all we know

*I did not appreciate the K371's sound with my glasses on though

More evidence that Hifiman cant make a closerd back.... idk why they keep trying if they know their whole market is open backs, imo just focus on improving the company's build quality

I really have trouble understanding Hifiman's product line. Total gamble on transducer performance, and they can't seem to settle on a decent suspension design even with their constant revisions.
Their design methodology seems to be "throw sh*t at wall, see what sticks". It's terrible.

Wow.

I sometimes think that the greatest service (and there are many) this site provides isn't necesarily to find the "best" gear... it's *avoiding* this kind of utterly overpriced disaster. I am reminded of that article in "the absolute sound" (https://www.theabsolutesound.com/articles/the-law-of-accelerating-returns/) that made me retch a little and finally made me cancel my subscription. "The more you spend, the better the sound"... how stupid do they think we are? We've always known there is a lot of utterly overpriced garbage out there, but these days there is *zero* excuse to try to inflict it on the "masses". Go learn your d*mn craft, *then* build and sell something.

Note I am in no way saying all exotically priced gear is incompenently made, that's not the case at all. But good g*d, when you sell a premium product, at least try to get the basics right.
What a disgusting article.

I know the Harman curve isn’t end all, be all, but I’m very curious as to what the company was aiming for here. What was the design process, how did they actually tune it? By ears of an engineer? By measuring frequency response? A and B blind testing ? …. What finally landed them on this tuning

Honestly just curious , no even calling this product bad
I guarantee it's all kinds of unscientific nonsense.

Am I seeing things or is each successive Hifiman headphone worse than the last one?

Hi,

There seems to be a consensus on this site that Hifiman are all broken and flawed headphones.

They may indeed not measure vera well as long as distorsion goes.
Some may also have a really weird FR curve.

But others do have nice FR curve (Ananda Nano) and also low distorsion (HE6-se V2).

Me, I own the Hifiman Ananda Nano.
Superb FR curve but from Amirm measurements horrible distorsion.
As I reported : I do not notice any distorsion even listening at loud levels.
And Amirm was able to measure that distorsion but also says at listening test that he dit not hear it.

All in all, the Ananda Nano is probably the headphone that is the one that sounds best to my ears from all headphones I've owned.
But this one is probably a little weird especiially for the asked price...

I have the original Ananda and I like the sound of it for electronic music.

They are, what they are,
The published numbers don't lie.

Guess I'll be keeping my valued old Sennheiser HD 650s a little longer.

They make a few great sounding headphones and a lot of weird sounding ones. I've had two pairs of 4XXs break on me, and I'm crossing fingers with this HE-400SE.

The HE-1000 Unveiled might be my favorite sounding open planar out right now, but I don't know if I'd feel comfortable spending that much on a Hifiman set.

Hi,

Maybe I should give those a try ?
But so far, I have owned the HD700 and the HD800.
For about 10 days...
After that I put them back on add site.
For some reason, I did not like the sound of those AT ALL.

Maybe the 600 and 650 will suit my listening tastes better ?
But so far, with the Ananda Nano as open back and the Pioneer SEM5 for a closed back, I am rather happy.

I recommend you get a set of 650s and live with them a while.
I don't claim they are the worlds best headphones but the funny thing is that they seem to be the "just right Goldilocks: for many.
A good used pair can be bought cheap.
YMMV

Hi,
Just saw that they sell now brand new for 350€.
Someone is selling a pair for 120€ in France where I live...
Those existe since over 15 years ?
They must inded be considered as something special.

I will definitely give them a try if I find someone next to me offering them for up to 150€ in good condition.

Regards.
