It’s odd that the 990Pro sells for a similar price as the 770Pro on Amazon but the 880 is quite a bit more.

Is the 32ohm 880 Edition a similar perrmance to the higher impedance 880 Pro versions?

I’d rank 880, 770 and 990.
All three have too much treble energy, but 880 is most bearable to my young ears (I’m 21). 770 has serious peak around 8-10kHz but can be easily tackled with parametric EQ, while 990 has that treble problem on top of boomy bass.

Yes, 880s do sell at higher price, but you can get the ugly “Chrome” edition ones on eBay for cheaper than 770s I believed (last time I checked for my friend they were selling at 5k Thai bath while 770s are selling for 7k Thai Bath.

Subjectively, 880’s perceived low end is the most clean and extended in my current headphone arsenal (770, 880, HD600, K7XX, M40X).

Of all headphones and earphones I like my ER4SR best, followed by DT880 (for non-trebly songs) and HD600 (for brighter tracks eg metal music and newer, more compressed tracks).

In short, 990 frequency response is the most V-shaped, followed by 770 and 880 respectively. If you are older than I am you may find 990’s treble bearable.

Pro version of Beyers have tighter clamp. I personally don't care for it.

If you are at all treble sensitive, avoid the 990's. Many people find them extremely fatiguing. I couldn't handle more than 5 min of them.

I had the 400i. I hated the stock pads. When I upgraded pads they created a seal around the ear that I found bothersome. Build quality is pretty cheap.

In this price range I think the 880 premium is one of the best options and a great headphone. 250ohm or 600ohm version. 32 ohm versions measures different enough to change the signature audibly.

If you get Beyers, get the regular versions with silver pads. The special editions with black pads are not as soft and luxurious to the touch.

Thanks guys - something is niggling me whether the Beyers are the right choice as they all sound a trade off.

My aging 38 year old ears wont be as sensitive I suspect.

I just tried Sonorworks on my Viso’s - was an improvement with the eq but when I turned it off the sound was worse than using Onkyo HF player. Guess they need to show the Sonorworks curve is better ;)

Will try the eq in Onkyo player as well.

It's interesting how it's so different from person to person. I'm 37 and the 990's and HD700's both have treble that physically pains me. As does the hd800 without eq for that matter
