Still the best I've found all month:
Brisbane, QLD seems to be fertile terrain for classy dreampop acts. This 2018 album does not appear to have blown up the same way that Hatchie did though (mind you, it's quite a ways from the latter's sugary romantic Cocteau Twins-esque take). Well, maybe this'll change with the new album.

Cake number 2 goes to this decidedly retro Berlin new-wave / post-punk band:

OK... So lets talk about Stop Light Observations. I saw the band in a tiny room with about 60 other people. The environment and acoustics there are probably best described as something fondly remembered in Joes Garage... It was intimate but also a bit sad.

For the life of me I don't understand why they haven't blown up. The musicianship is absolutely top-shelf. The songs, the stage presence, and especially the performance - fan_fucking_tastic!

Have a listen and a follow. They mix genres freely and fall somewhere in the pop/rock/soul venn intersection - except - their live preformances have a distinct jazz infusion with all the bandmates having a go at showing off their chops... And they got chops a plenty!

Thanks for the tip! After sampling their live show - it's too bad that recordings don't bring some of the heavy/jam/'live' of their show. 2young is a great example of them sounding heavily produced and polished on the record, but that song absolutely slams live! I'm also in Toronto - wish I'd known to drop in at their show, seems like it would have been great.

Their recordings are really good, slick, well produced... And then you go to the live show and it's a hot n sweaty jamfest. The ticket and two king cans cost me less than $50 - the live show bargain of the year.

Ok... not quite "discovered recently" more like almost 20 years ago... But I wanted to share another band not unlike the above Stop Light Observations... A band that deserved a wider audience. They "almost" made it when their tune Mole Man got picked up for a Ford Fiesta commercial (it's the commercial - so click advisedly) and the song DJs in a Row for the movie "It's all gone Pete Tong", but alas it was never to be.

The band is Schwab and besides the two tunes above there are a couple of other tracks that stuck with me:
Pierre Cardin and Little Beats.

Ok let me share with you Des Rocs. I know it's derivative, and maybe even "unoriginal"... but man... it's fantastic rock n roll. I mean if I am looking for a crunchy guitar fix, sure I can go into the past, but instead I want to hear what the kids are doing today - and Des Rocs is doing alright!

Love the music. Great live performance. A bonafide rock star persona! Great stuff!

'Alt. Rock' is part of my daily nutrition intake and in large quantities. Of late, Måneskin has been on rotation here.

In 2021, Måneskin became the first Italian rock band to reach the Top10 on the UK Singles Chart.
Måneskin - Zitti E Buoni (EuroVision Song Contest(2021))
Måneskin - SUPERMODEL Live
(EuroVision SongContest(2022))
Måneskin - GOSSIP (feat. TomMorello of RageAgainst)
Måneskin - HONEY (ARE U COMING?) 2023
Måneskin reminds me of NiN or AliceInChains or just part of Alt.Rock's Weird-but-Talented bunch [imo].
I kinda get giggles listening to their Italian vocals, although I am clooless what they are pitching!:)
