I got an ART Pro Audio PS 4x4 Pro off eBay to protect my HiFi. Problem is, that it hums. I don't think it's mechanical hum, pretty sure it is not ground, either. I don't have the skills nor the equipment to safely characterize the system while on mains.

I pretty much sit there and don't know what to do. In the current state it's useless, since the noise is audible (HiFi is in my bedroom and I like to keep it on 24/7).

Any ideas? Thx.

Where do you hear the hum? In the speakers?
Oh, sorry, should have mentioned that! No, the hum is in the device. So, opposite to what I said, may be mechanical, I really don't know.

Well, then likely it may be an inductor (aka coil) of the noise filters or if there is a transformer in it also this one possible. Capacitors seldom hum but also possible in rare cases. Without opening the chassis and listen under working conditon it can't be determinded what it really is. BUT, if you are not experienced on mains voltage electricity and devices DON't OPEN IT. Look for a guy who can do it. Even if you know what it is, a repair may be not possible if you can't get the right replacement component.

Okay, thanks. I will do as you advised and try to find a repair shop. Not easy over here.
