Are the Genelec 8331's with GLM, the best bang for buck in that price range?

They run around £1700 each...

The 8341 has better bass extension, but they're £700 more PER monitor, and at that price I could just get a sub.

It depends what you're looking for. I remember in Erin's review he stated that the max spl before clipping is not so high for the 8331's. For slightly less you can buy the Neumann KH310 with more power and less distortion, although non-coaxial so directivity and off axis linearity suffers. If this extra SPL isn't required, you can't go wrong with GLM and Genelec. I'm using 5x 8030c's in a semi-nearfield 5.1 setup crossed at 120hz and I'm able to reach very high SPL levels.

A pair of 8331's crossed over to a sub should give you excellent results!

No. It's a small and somewhat limited speaker that is very expensive.

It might still be a good choice depending on your needs and budget.
